Phi Delts Lead In IM Wrestling Phi Delta Theta holds a slim two-point edge over defending champion Alpha Tau Omega, as the semi-finals of IM wrestling get under way today. The Phi Delts held a 49 - 47 edge over ATO. Other leaders in the 46-team race are Sigma Chi with 33 points: Phi Gamma Delta. 28; Sigma Nu. 27; and Douglass. 23 Eighteen matches are slated for this afternoon. Art Skipper, of Delta Upsilon, the 1962 de fending champion in the 177 pound class, will meet Ad Talbot of Philadelphia House at 5 pin. Making a bid at regaining the 167 pound crown, which he earned in 1960, is Larry Payne. Beta Theta Pi, who will be wrestling against Johnny Johnson of Campbell Club, The IM consolation matches are scheduled for Wednesday be tween all wrestlers who have lost to the finalists. The finals will be held next week in McArthur Court. Curt Scott of Omega, seeded number one at 130 pounds, has scored the quickest fall of the tourney thus far with a 20-second pin. Wrestling Coach Mike Reuter, tournament manager, believes the best organized team may win the championships through the con solation matches. Many wrestlers forfeit during the consolation rounds, believing they have al ready been eliminated from the tournament. Reuter urges all Intramural managers to watch the Emerald wrestling schedule. Third and fourth places in each weight are determined by the consolation brackets and are scored four and two points with fall points and advancement points. Oregon Rifle Team Needs Shooters Master Sergeant Joseph Bar nett, coach of the Oregon rifle team, needs more members for the team. Anyone wishing to join the team should see Barnett at the ROTC building. The rifle team will hold its first match of the season, Nov. 27. against the Corvallis Rifle Team in Eugene. The schedule will con tinue until Feb. 25, 1964. The Oregon team will have one match each week between Nov. 27 and Feb. 25. The University of Nevada aver aged 255 yards per game through the air in 1948. In 1938, Penn1 State allowed only 13.1 yards per game via passes. Kanehe Out MILT KANEHE, 250-lb. tackle, will be lost to the Duck football team for the remainder of the season. Kanehe suffered a broken ankle in the second quarter of the Washington game. Harris Gives Cos Vote of Confidence A vote of confidence went to j Len Casanova for the jot) of pro j paration done by his stalf and him for the Washington game at Monday’s Oregon Club meeting Leo Harris said "This was the best preparation for a game we’ve had in my 17 years at Oregon—In eluding our Rose Bowl game with Ohio State.” Cas, himself, commended coach John Robinson for his thorough job of scouting the Huskies He said Robinson had looked at films of Washington games from three or four years ago, and knew every defensive maneuver of the Hus kies. As for last Saturday’s game. Casanova said, "There was a tre mendous burden on our four deep men. When we—and Washington —made a mistake it was a bad one.” Cas said this was probably the reason for the high score in the contest. Berry On One l.eg Cas also praised Bob Berry for his courage in playing three qtiar ters of the game on practically one leg. Berry's knee was injured in the first quarter. UO Athletic Cards Stolen In Portland The University Athletic Depart ment reports that 42 women's ath letic cards were stolen Saturday at the Washington game The number of cards are known by the department. These cards will not be honored by the de partment. Anyone attempting to use them at the remaining Ore gon home games will have his or her name taken and presented at the athletic department OSU Game Tickets Available Today Students may pick up reserve seat tickets for the Homecom ing game with OSU at the Ath letic Department’s main box of fice, beginning at 3 p.m. today. One ticket will be issued to each student with his athletic card. The deadline for getting the ducats is 5 p.m. November 12. This was the closest that any team has come to the Frosh this season. Four records were set in the meet. Charlie Staples, 1963 Aus tralian national champion, swam the 50-yard freestyle in 22 2 sec onds to set a new Frosh mark and tie the varsity and conference rec ords. However, Staples can’t hold the varsity or conference record unless he breaks it in varsity com petition. Monty Holding, in taking a close second to Reedsport’s Don Mackenzie, set a new Frosh time in the 400-yard freestyle. The race was a tough one to lose, because Holding had been out-swimming his opponent in the middle and losing on his turns. Holding was defeated by a slim tenth of a sec ond. Smith Breaks Record The 100-yard breaststroke mark was broken for the second time in as many meets, this time by Mas on Smith. Smith swam the race in a time of 1:07.3, more than a sec ond better than Bob Brockhouse’s clocking three weeks earlier. The depth of the Frosh team showed up again in the 200-yard medley relay, as the hosts swam two teams, both bettering the old record of 1:49.3. The exhibition team of Brockhouse, Smith, Gram Colton and Don Smith swam the distance in 1:45.4, while the “A” relay of Charles Leland, Jim Stauffer and Staples turned in a 1:48.3 time. The later team claims the record, however, be cause it was the official Oregon entry in the event. Frosh Lose Only Two The Frosh lost their only other race of the day in the 200-yard freestyle. Don Johanneson and Julian Carrol did come through with second and third places re spectively to aid their mates' ef forts. Other Frosh entries who either won or placed were: Monty Hold ing, first, and Warren Houston, second, in the 200-yard freestyle; Larry Folinsbee won the diving unopposed; Gram Colton, first, and Jim Stauffer, second, in the 100-yard butterfly; Don Smith, first, and Scott Taylor, second, in the 100-yard freestyle; Carrol, first, and Johannesan, second, in the backstroke; Mason Smith, first, and Brockhouse, third, in the 100 yard breaststroke, and the Frosh team of Morgan, Metlick. Martain and Taylor, took the free style relay. Beating the Reedsport team and also the “A” team was the exhibition relay of Staples and Smith who each went 100 yards instead of the usual 50 of the 200 yard distance. John Simmons, San Jose State athletic news bureau director said, "We like to think of our selves as the sleeping giant of West coast football " Simmons pointed out that in their game with California, which the Spartans lost, 34-13. San Jose ran 83 plays to Cal's 44 The Spar tans also out gained the Golden Bears. But, Cal quarterback Craig Morton threw five long passes that day for touchdowns to beat the Spartans.
