Another sophomore who gives j the Heavers strength in the dis-; lances is Iain Colpitts. The 22 year-old native of Los Angeles run?, the 880, the mile, and the two-mile. Colpitts had a best of 4:1G.G in the mile as a freshman. Ducks find new talent As for the Ducks, a couple of new tigers appeared last weekend against V/Slj, and an old one came out of hiding. Gary Roddaway boosted the Ducks’ chances for another place in the javelin when he took first place against WSU with a heave oi 215-6. Keddaway’s first came in tie- absence of John Burns and Les Tipton. Llewellyn breaks field record And the rejuvenated tiger might be Terry Llewellyn, who, with the appearance of Paul Stu GERRY MORO New Buck poJevault champion her, has been taking a second seat to the newcomer. Last week end Llewellyn broke the Rogers field record in Spokane with a leap of 6-10%. But, when OSU and Oregon get together in any athletic event, past performances can be thrown to the wind. The old adage “Any thing can happen, and usually does” goes for meetings between these two universities. Duck coach Bill Bowerman told the Register-Guard Monday that Ore gon will have to win the mile re lay if it is to win. He ought to know. Eilif Fredricksen of WSU overtook Washington’s Watiboko West in the triple jump with a leap of 49-4:1«, one of the best collegiate efforts in the nation this spring OREGON'S TERRY Llewellyn passed teammate Paul Stuber in the high jump by clearing 6 IO^h. Webfoot Dave Blunt broke his deadlock with Oregon State's Tom Boswell in the 220 by jetting to a 21.5 clocking, and Duck ace Mel Renfro regained undisputed pos session of the broad jump leadership with an effort of 24-834. Brian Sternberg. Washington’s sensational sophomore pole vaulter, solidified his top ranking by establishing a world record of 16-5 at the Penn Relays. Coach Bill Boworman’s Ducks continue to dominate the Northern Division rankings, owning eight undisputed leaderships and sharing one top spot out of 15 events. OREGON STATE athletes lead in three events and share one first, WSU thinclads load in two events and Washington’s Sternberg pro vides his school’s lone top billing. In Northern Division meets Saturday, Oregon travels to Corvallis for a dual meet with Oregon State and Washington and Washington State tangle in a two-way test at Seattle.
