The Weekend: Unbalanced But Fun By I INI)A BROWN Emerald Entertainment Editor li you sometimes wonder why entertainment columns seem tin organized and slightly out of bal ance it’s often because of two reasons: 1) the weekend is unor ganized and slightly out of bal ance 2) the Emerald is unorgan ized and slightly out of balance. i.ikf ims weekend. rne Kmer ald finally has lots of room to run lots ot entertainment news and pictures and things arid so of course there is really nothin# to writ* about. Not that there isn’t anything to do. There is r You can always count on the athletic de partment and the SU.) But it’s just that so many more good thin#' have been happening How ever, the dims are excellent for a change. Now for the things that are go ing on on campus . Movies are greater than ever— at least they are worth two weeks running in the minds of some Eugene theatres There shouldn't br any complaints, however. The conference will be held at the University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, from April 8 to 12 The participants will discuss ‘‘Cultur al Affairs and Foreign Relations.” THE AMERICAN Assembly is a national, non partisan, educa tional organization which holds national, international, and reg ional meetings and publishes books on current topics. The Heilig is still showing “40 Founds of Trouble” with Tony Curtis, Suzanne Fleshette and Phil Silvers. The best part is the chase scene in Disneyland. The co-feature is an old west ern, “Winchester 73” with James Stewart, Shelly Winters and Rock Hudson The McKenzie is showing “The Manchurian Candidate," a satire on extreme rightism (of course those groups usually satirize them selves) with Frank Sinatra and Laurence Harvey starring. “War Hunt” with John Saxon is the co feature. The Mayflower has finally) brought back “Viridana,” a Mexi can film made last year. This is a horrifying story of the imperative conflict between an idealistic girl and the essential lust and cruelty of reality This is certainly a must see, particularly if you are a for eign film fan The McDonald is also showing another good movie—Simone Sig noret and Laurence Oliver in “Term of Tr<al ” Although critical opinion is divided, one cannot ig nore the irony that Oliver faces ay a school teacher who is ac cused of attacking a st d nt Tf hr deni*** the charge he loses hi:; wife; if he docs not deny it, he loses his iob and self-respect.
