What the .... is a push cart? A push cart is a metal construc tion similar to a soap box racer that has been stripped of its sides, and no more than 72-inches long and 48-inches high. It must be equipped with no more than four hard-rubber wheels. Carl Finwall, director of the first push cart relays, said that he got the idea for the relays when he transferred to Oregon from San Jose State this year. Accord ing to Finwall the push cart re lays at UCLA, San Jose, and Cali fornia are similar to Oregon’s Canoe Fete as a campus attrac tion. All campus organizations and living groups are eligible to enter one push cart in the relays. Tro phies will be awarded to the win ners of first and second places in the men’s and women’s relays and to the organization with the most original pushcart. The five relay “pushers” musl be male students registered al the University and cannot be members of the frosh or varsitj track team or letterman. The tentative race course will be along 13th, 14th and Kincaid ! Street. Fimvall said that this course has already been cleared with city manager Hugh McKin ley. Immediately preceding the rac es, there will be a “fun parade” in ; which all organizations entering jthe races must participate. Any or i ganization may enter the paratfe i without participating in the push cart races. There will be an entry fee for those organizations entering the races, with all profits going to the Pearl Buck School. No entry fee has been set yet. Falcons vs. Alpha Tau Omega By BOB HERNDON Assistant Sports Editor Thr fast improving Oregon Webfoots will face the powerful Seattle Chieftains in a single game this weekend in Oregon’s McArthur Court. Already picked to play in the NCAA playoff tournament, the Chieftains have run up a 18-5 rec ord thus far this season. In roll ing to their impressive record, the Chiefs have racked up a 819 po’nts per game average. The Chieftains are lead by All-Ameri can Eddie Miles. MH Ev a 6’4” senior guard, was ? third team pick on the I'PI All American team. Miles known as "The Man with the Ooldon Arm” is leading the Chieftains with a 24 7 point average per game. Miles an outstanding player with Seat tle foi two years has been nothing short of phenomenal this year. The Seattle standout had his best night of the year against the Uni versity of Portland when he bagged 42 points as the Chiefs crushed the Pilots 102-72. Although the Webfoots 11-12 record is a far cry from the 18-5 Seattle mark, the Ducks have been red hot in their last three ball games. In their last three encoun JOHN MACK Webfoot defensive star ters, the Webfoots have fired away at a blistering .505 mark from the floor, and have averaged 83 3 points per game. THE OREGON cagers are four for five in their last five outings. The Ducks split a pair with Ore gon State, and then ran up their longest win streak of the year by taking a pair from Washington State and a single game from the ! University of Portland. The three game sweep of Wash ington State and the University of Portland marked the end of a long drought for the Ducks on their home court. Going into the Wash ington State series, the Webfoots were 1-7 on the Mac Court maples, beating only BYU in the seasons second encounter. Against the Cougars, the Oregon live turned in their best offensive perform ance of the year in route to a 84 72 win. The contest will set the stage for a rematch between the Chief tain's scoring ace, Eddie Miles, and John Mack, the Webfoot do tensive specialist. Oregon fans will remember last years clash be tween the two stars when Mack put the damper on Miles’ scoring touch holding him to only five points as the Ducks upset the Chieftains 71-65. MACK HAS added another trick to his basketball bag of tricks with his current scoring spree. In the last two Webfoot outings. Mack has hit for 26 points almost as much as he had produced in his previous 18 games. Mack pumped in 15 counters against Washing ton State and turned in an 11 point performance against the University of Portland. Joining Mack in the backcourt will be 63" sophomore Elliott Gleason. Gleason, a good pick for the Webfoots most improved player, has added some badly needed scoring to the Duck at tack. Gleason rippled the nets for 15 points against Washington State and hit for 12 counters against the University of Port land Webfoot front line duties will fall to 6'5" junior Steve Jones and 6’5” junior Jim Johnson at for wards, and 6'7" senior Glenn Moore at center Ron Hanson, who came off the bench to hit four straight buckets just before the half ended against Portland, will be a good bet to see action Satur day night. STEVE JONES still leads the Webfoot scoring attack Although Jones has fallen off the pace in his last few games, he still boasts a 14.7 average. Glenn Moore holds down the second spot with a 13 8 average, and Jim Johnson isn't far behind with a 13.1 average. In the last three Duck games, Johnson has been red hot. The junior forward has nit 24 of 41 from the field for a blistering 585 peicentage Johnson has been in double figures for the last three ball games, and topped his scoring assault with a 25 point production against Portland to give him a 21 point average for the last three contests. MOORE IS close behind John son with a .520 percentage on 26 against Portland to give him a 21 3 point per game average. Moore dumped in 26 points in the first game of the Washington State series.
