Apartment Rule Discussed At AWS, YWCA Open Forum The apartment rule was the main topic of discussion by AWS and YWCA candidates for office in a forum Tuesday. Pat McCorkle, candidate for AWS vice president, said that she felt that the apartment rule should not be completel y abolished. “Something should be changed, though,” she said. She went on to say that discussion be tween faculty and students, not polls such as the one recently taken, is the step to effective ac tion. KIT THORPE, candidate for YWCA secretary, said that the apartment rule must stand be cause the administration is re sponsible for the action of the students, and they must have a basis for their actions. “I feel that they really don't care if stu dents other than freshmen obey the rule or not. I don’t think it is as big a problem as they are mak ing it." she said. “There is no sense of having a rule that can't be enforced.” said ! Nancy Erland. who is running for AWS vice president. She went on to say that the rule would not be effective unless “apartments were patrolled." EXPRESSING her views of AWS and the Legislature. AWS presidential candidate Joan Yasui said that the representation in the Legislature should be read 1 justed so that the women were equally represented. She pointed out that the president of Heads of Houses, who has one vote in Legislature, represents all women living in sororities, dormitories and co-ops. Kwama president, she ! said, also has one vote, and she represents only 35 girls. MODt RN CLASSICS SCULPT'uRED fr, \ BfOGtT Ti'RMS TOO $300 each. YWCA secretary, said that the YWCA cannot effectively play its role on the campus unless wo men are informed of its activities. She feels that informal discussion j carried on a door-to-door basis in the dorms would be effective, al though time consuming. DISCUSSING the effectiveness ! and role of AWS, Pat McCorkle said, "The women don’t know 1 what AWS has power to do. We must get the point across to them.” Jane Capito, candidate for AWS historian, said that AWS can only inform the women of its role by person to person contact. Nancy Wohlford, YWCA presi dential candidate, explained her theory: "We must define our posi tion and the purpose of the or ganization in order to find our real job." She proposed a general meeting open to all women stu dents once a month in order to let the women know what the groups representing them are doing.
