There was no indication that he would he assigned any coaching duties at Springfield. Civil Service Asks For More Wages A $15 million grant for Civil ! Service salary adjustments has been asked of the Oregon Legisla ture by Gov. Hatfield. Mr. Ralph Wheeler, neighboring district di j rector of the Oregon State Em ployees Association, presented I this message to local members at their meeting in the Student Un I ion Jan. 10. Gov. Hatfield stated that there is a 50 per cent turnover in state ! employees each year and it is too expensive to continuously train employes who are enticed away by private industries offer i ing better pay. The salary ad justments should alleviate this situation. WHEELER also reported that the Ways and Means Interim Committee is still studying plans to improve the State Retirement System to make it more compar able to those of California and Washington. A report will be re leased in the immediate future. Discussed at the meeting was the rapid growth of O.S.E.A. ; membership on the University campus. Statewide, over 61 per ' cent of the 17,500 state employes are now members of O.S.E.A. Chapters are jointly aiming at an increase of membership to at , least 80 per cent before the Ore gon Legislature ends. AN ALL-OUT Workshop to better inform members of their benefits and privileges as Civil Services employees of the state of Oregon is soon to be held in Eugene.
