Oregon handled Idaho with ease in a two-game series at Eugene earlier in the year by scores of 13-0 and 3-1, but the Vandals should be much tougher on their home field at Moscow. Ballard shut the Vandals out on two hits in the Eugene series, and looked quite impressive in doing so, with 12 strikeouts. He’ll be mighty hard to beat if his fast ball finds the strike zone with as much consistency as it did in that first game. BREDE, WHO HAS had only one starting assignment, (he beat Portland, 5-0) has looked good all year long, and hasn’t been batted out of the box yet. A steadily improving performer, Brede could be the number one pitcher on next year’s team, un less Denny Peterson recovers completely from the sore shoulder which has kept him out of action all season long. The rainout of the Cougar-Duck game Thursday means that Buck Bailey’s team swept the 1960, series from Oregon — the first time that’s happened in quite a while. AFTER THE Idaho series, the Ducks will take Sunday off, and then resume play Monday and Tuesday against the Washington Huskies, whom they defeated 4-1 at Eugene behind Bob Christian son a couple weeks back.
