Saving Passion Nets Reward Mi Sentence PORTLAND (if) A passion for saving has earned >t jail sen tence for a 71-year-old Milwau kic, Ore., resident. Ia-o Fontana saved a yardful of scrap lumber, estimated at 100 truckloads, plus scrap metal, newspapers, three old autos and 21 stray dogs. Last fall neighbors began com plaining about the dogs and the debris. Fontana ignored a circuit court order to clean up his yard and license his dogs. Now he is serving a 90-day sentence for con tempt of court. A cleanup crew is hauling away Fontana’s scrap. They esti mate it will take 10 days to com plete the job. General Motors, Ford and Chry sler turned out 1,406,695 vehicles in 1958’s first three months, com pared to 2,021,361 in last year's like period. Included were figures for cars, trucks and coaches. G.M. output declined from 999, 820 to 838,068, Ford from 628, 938 t o 397.605, arid Chrysler from 302,604 to 171,032. Production figures released by the firms Tuesday showed March production was off sharply from March, 1957. Ford’s Thundertaird line was the only model of the Big Three which showed a gain in March and in 1958’s first quar ter.
