    IM Title Fight Opens Today
Eight Squads Vie
For Championship
The first round of the 1958 Class A intramural basketball
championships get underway this afternoon with three games
on tap. Another game—a B playoff clash between Alpha
Hall and Morton Hall—is also on tap.
Theta Chi, winners of the League Two title, will meet
Sigma Nu in the opener at 3:50 on Court 40. The Theta Chi
Five with a 4-1 record had to win a playoff game with Phi
Kappa Psi to gain a playoff berth, while Sigma Nu rolled j

Phi Delta Theta enters the 1958
intramural Class A basketball
tournament today as tight favo
rites to cart off the crown. The
Emerald board of seven IM wri
ters picked the Phi Delts to win
the title in a close vote over sec
ond choice Alpha Hall and third
pick Theta Chi.
The Emerald board gave four
first place votes to Alpha, two
to Theta Chi and only one to the
Phi Delts, but five second place
votes were enough to give the
Phi Delts a seven point bulge
over Alpha and a nine point lead
over Theta Chi.
Points were given on an
8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 basis with a first
place vote worth eight points and
an eight place vote worth one
point.
Following the top three were
Sigma Nu, Legal Eagles, Smith
Hall, Lambda Chi Alpha and
Amazon Village in that order.

ney will open next Tuesday with

today.

squad rolled over Sheldon to get j
that crack at Morton today for
the League Seven title. All three ;
; clubs had ended regular season j
play with a 2-1 record.

season, could not miss the buck
et. While Sheldon managed elev
en points in the first half, the
men of Alpha hit for 22.
In the third stanza, the out
side shooting of Young Yee en
abled Alpha to surge to a 33-12
advantage, while Sheldon, who
could not put together a scoring
combination, mastered a single
point. Behind by 21 points, Shel
don could not find time enough
to conquer their opponents.
