Experience Not Victory University of Oregon's fresh man football eleven wound up its 1957 slate last Friday after noon with an unimpressive 0-3 won-lost mark. But despite the sting of not having won a ball game in three starts, Frosh coaches are not exactly crying. “The main reason for Frosh football at Oregon is to acquaint our players with the operative methods of the varsity system, so things won't be so hazy when all-important sprang practice rolls around,” Bob Doornink as sistant Frosh mentor, observed. “Our secondary' purpose," the coach said, “is to put on the turf a ball club to win ball games. But the primary purpose—win or lose—is experience. Requested to name a few of his Frosh players who stands better than average chances of earning a position on the Varsity Ducks next season, Doornink mentioned several of the team’s standouts. In doing so, he hastened to add that in the process of fielding a representative, winning ball club it is sometimes necessary to put men in positions different from the ones they ordinarily hold dov.-n. As an example, Doornink com mented that Paul Bauge, half back-fullback for the current Frosh, “should make an outstand ing Varsity end.” The Duckling mentors also see bringh things in the future for quarterbacks Dick Arbuckle and Darryl Eisner, cen ters Cal Titchner and Ron Col lins, guard Dave Urell and tackle Gary Stensland.
