opens Sunday at the McDonald.
"Hobson's Choice" stars Charles
Laughton and John Mills in a
story about a bootmaker and his
three daughters. This delightful
English film plays through Sat
urday at the Firs theatre. The
co-feature is “River of No Re
turn." starring Robert Mitchum
and M. Monroe. It is unfor
tunate she returned from the
river.
Travelogue Mystery
Sunday the Firs will screen ,
“To Catch a Thief," a travelogue
type mystery photographed on
the French Riviera, starring
Grace Kelly and Cary Grant. Co
feature is “Five Against the
House."
"The Lieutenant Work Skirts” j
is a new movie starring Tom
Ewell of “Seven Year Itch" fame
and Sheree North, of Broadway j
fame. The plot concerns what
happens when husband md wife
try to enlist in the armed forces 1
to be near each other. Husband
is 4-F, wife apparently is 1-A.
Obviously light fare, but the film
has fine reviews. Co-feature is
"Chance Meeting."
A contender for the worst pic
ture of 1955 plays through the |
week-end at the Fox. "Target 1
Zero” stars Richard Conte and
Peggie Castle in a story about
the Korean War. Somewhat de- j
void of plot, action or acting, the ;
film leaves more than a little to
be desired. Co-feature is “The j
Paris Follies of 1958.” Who
knows ?
Musical Bill
Amusing double bill for those
who didn’t catch either on their
first-run through Eugene plays
at the Eugene Drive-in. “Knock
on Wood” stary Danny Kaye in
an amusing although somewhat
disappointing, Danny Kaye type
musical.
Co-feature With “Knock on
Wood,” is “Carmen Jones.” To
those who do not know the opera,
especially the music as sung by

should be entertaining. But. those
who have seen or heard a produc

Transplanted to South
As most know, this version of
Bizet s opera is transplanted to
the American south during the
second World War. Harry Bela
fonte plays Joe (Don Jose). The
musical is a fairly faithful trans
portation of the opera, consid
ering the plot, but poor writing
detracts from the total effect.
Films of a dubious nature will
be shown over the weekend at
the Heilig. “The Spoilers” and
Hold Back Tomorrow” play
through Saturday. Jeff Chandler
and Anne Baxter star in the
former, a story of the “North

Beginning Sunday the Heilig

"The Trial," a recent drama
starring Glenn Ford and Arthur
