Boughton Conducts Local Symphony This year the Eugene-Spring fiold Symphony is being conduct ed by George Boughton. asso ciate professor of music at the University. Boughton began his career early, receiving training in com munity end theatre orchestras in western New York. When he was ' 16 he was allowed to direct theatre orchestras when his teacher was sick, and shortly thereafter he was made a prin cipal conductor. He has had varied and valuable experience in most types of theatrical music from musical comedy to light opera. In 1928 he entered the college field and since then he has conducted col lege orchestras and bands in Kansas, South Dnkota. The meeting will be held on the Stan ford university campus and at the Fainnount hotel. He came to Oregon in 1945 and since then his activities have been largely in the field of cham ber music amt as a solo violinist. During the season 1954-55 he was concertniaster and assistant con ductor for the Eugene-Spring field Symphony. Because ot the recent agree ment between the University and the Eugene-Springfield Sym phony, students will be admitted to ail the symphony’s presenta tions free of charge. Anyone not attending the University may ob tain season tickets at all music and piano stores, or they may be bought at the door before the Nov. '10 concert. There will be a total of four j concerts, the one on Nov. 10. one on Jan 10. another on April 5. and the last one of the season on May 3. X 30 Season Ticket Sale Is Over Tomorrow Time is growing short to buy extra season tickets that will be needed to take that special date to the five University Theatre productions. Season tickets will not be sold after 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5. but car be purchased for $!> at the University Theatre box office from 1 to 8 p.m. today and Sat urday. Holders of season tickets may select their seats by mad before the box office opens to the gen eral public. However they can not send money along with tin stubs for additional seats. For this reason, Dori Bareness, UT business manager, encourages those who like to take their dates to UT productions to buy an other season ticket now. Other wise when they ran out of sea son ticket stubs, they will not have as good selection of seats. Tickets are worth $0 in gen eral admission seats. Season ticket holders also re ceive free tickets to special bonus attractions and have the privilege of making advance or ders fo>- the UT arena-style pro duction Tickets are transferable so that my ticket may be used at any show, be loaned to a friend or given -away. Chief function of the commit tee this year, according to Bal laine, will be the publication of an index of the various publica tions produced by bureaus of business and economic research In American universities. Ap proximately 50 such universities will be included. This will be the first time such an index has been published by the organization. Distribution will be made to libraries, busi ness firms, and market research organizations. The index will Is- completed by next summer and will cover tie years since 1950 with supple ments to be add'-d in the future. Promoters hope that it will make the publications of the univer sities Is tier known and there fore more readily available.
