TOP TWIN BILL Mayflower Theater Shows Farcical Foreign Comedy By Dave Sherman Amusement Page Editor The top double bill of the weekend finishes a one week run Saturday at the Mayflower. The hilarious French farce, “Mr. Hulot’s Holiday” and "The Little Kidnappers’’ are the top two. The star of "Mr. Hulot’s Hol iday” has a technique very rem iniscent of Charlie Chaplin. The story is done mostly in panto mime, with the dialogue kept to a bare minimum, it concerns a holiday at the seashore, Mr. Hu lot’s misadventures and the re actions of other people at the resort. Particularly amusing are the couple who go out for a "breath of air” every evening. “The Little Kidnappers’’ is a sentimental story of two small boys who are being raised by their grandfather, a stern old Scot. The boys want a dog. but a dog isn't practical to their grand father. so they settle for the next best thing — a baby girl. The natural complications result, and a happy ending is reached. As Dr. Bingham of the history department put it, “These are two very fine films. Neither of them, of course, came out of Hol lywood.” Italian Shakespeare Sunday the Mayflower fea TV News Forum Starts 4th Season College Press conference, tele vision’s only national college news forum returned to the air for the fourth straight season on October 9. The program, sponsored by the American Broadcasting System, features a panel of four college students questioning national and international leaders on political, economic, student and interna tional affairs. tures a version of Shakespeare s "Romeo and Juliet.” The film was the grand prize winner in the Venice Film Festival. It was also filmed in Italy, in and around some of the churches there. We understand the film concentrates more on the back ground than on Mr. Shake speare’s story. Playing with “Romeo and Ju liet” is Anna Magnani in “Vol cano," a story of raw, virile vio lence! ho hum. Humphrey Bogart continues in his disguise as a minister of God in “The Left Hand of God.” through Saturday at the McKen zie in Springfield. Also playing is “Canyon Crossroads." For those who like a liberal helping of sentiment, "Love is a Many Splendored Thing” opens Sun day at the McKenzie. This film is not nearly as splendored as it’s kicked up to be—but those who like tear stained butterflies may enjoy it. Walt Disney’s latest, “The Lady and the Tramp” continues through Saturday at the Eugene Drive-In. Best bits include a song by Peggy Lee and two Sia mese cats. “The Man from Ala mo" is also playing. June and Jets Sunday Alan Ladd flies through the air with the aid of jets and June Allyson back to her stock role, instead of trying to make a “shrike” of her. Co feature is “The Steel Cage.” Audie Murphy finally gets blown off the screen at the Hei lig Saturday. Sunday begins a short run of “Special Delivery" and “Pirates of Tripoli.” The New Fox features liberal doses of anti-communism in “Blood Alley." with John Wayne and Lauren Bacall. “The Master Plan” also tries to entertain au diences.
