    'Limelight/ Starring Chaplin
Is Best Film Showing Now
By Dave Sherman
Amusement Pege Editor
“Limelight." a replay of Char
lie Chaplin’s film seen two years
ago on campus, is by far the best
film showing this weekend.
Chaplin plays Calvero, a mu
sic hall comedian around the
time of the first world war. He
helps a ballet dancer who claims
she can no longer walk. She be
comes a great star while he be
comes a street entertainer.
Included in the film are too
few scenes of Chaplin’s famous
vaudeville skits. He plays the
“tramp" hejs so famous for, does
a flea routine, and teams up with
Buster Keaton in a violin act
which is one of the high-points
of the show.
Ballet Sequence
Many will recognize the
“Terry’s Theme” from the show,
to which Claire Bloom dances in
one of the ballet sequences. The
film is almost a one-man show
— Chaplin produced, directed,
stars, composed the music and j
choreographed it.
Also playing with Limelight
is an early Alfred Hitchcock
thriller. “The Lady Vanishes.”
The “theatre season” in Eu
gene got off to a roaring start
with the Very Little Theatre pro
duction of "Charley’s Aunt.”
Featured in the show is Bruce
Holt, seen on campus in “Ber
nardine” and “Captive at Large”
last year. The show is an Eng
lish comedy written by Brandon
Thomas.
Plays Aunt
Gene Hei<locker, a frequent
VLT player, plays the "aunt.”
Also- featured in the cast is Judy
Hawley, a former member of the
Cascade Players on Campus.
"The Night of the Hunter.”
Charles Laughton’s experiment
with the movies, plays over the
week-end at the “new" Fox.
Robert Mitchum and Shelley
Winters star in the film and
Lillian Gish is featured. The film
has been criticized as being “too
arty" for its own good.

the Hunter” is "Green Magic," i
which is, we are told, the eighth
wonder of the world. We’d prob
ably do well to stick to the first
seven.
“Gung-Ho”
Audie Murphy continues to
charge "gung-ho" through the
filmed version of his war story.
"To Hell and Back.” The film
is based on Murphy's experiences
in the war and he is accorded
the honor of playing himself. Al
though the film may be accurate,
the episodes become just a little
too tiring.
On the way back from hell,
the Heilig is showing "Combat
Squad." Anyone for taking up
residence ?
At the MacDonald, Richard
Egan, Anthony Quinn, Jeffrey
Hunter. Michael Rennie and Rita
Moreno continue to troop through
California.
Gold Hunting
Rennie is a priest, the other
three men are hunting for gold.
