One of the most controversial ■
elements of Homer's work is his
use of humor, Combeilack said.
"Most scholars try to read subtle
humor on every page of "The
Iliad," he went on. "I think this is1
carrying things too far. Homeric
humor is present, but it is of the[
whimsical, immoral, cruel gods,’ ”
Combeilack added.
Combeilack also commented
that the original Greek in which
Homer wrote was "completely ar
tificial and has never been spoken j
by anyone anywhere. It was creat
ed expressly for poetic purposes.”!

A recently completed trip to the
Hast and Southwest, highlighted
by a talk with Mrs. Mamie Eisen
hower, was “very interesting and
informative," Mm. Golda P. Wick
ham. associate director of student
affairs, said Tuesday.

Deans of Women in Washington,
D. C., and the Associated Women's
Students convention in Tuscon.

thropology department, will be the
lecturer and will show various
slides to illustrate his talk. The
