Award Given John Valieau John Valieau. graduate student i journalism, has won a special $;■> research award for his mas ter’s thesis on the press coverage of the 1951 Oregon legislature, the School of Journalism announced to day. Valieau, who will receive the first master's degree with honors in the journalism school's history, won the research prize from a fund sponsored by T. Neil Taylor. Uni versity journalism graduate, in 1931. ' His thesis was a “tremendously detailed and revealing study of the way the people of Oregon get in formed of the activities of their legislative representatives," ac cording to Dean Gordon A. Five who were questioned mild they believe it to be successful, but four others gave emphatic negative un swers. Some snid that the alumni had a good time and the game was a good one. These two things seemed to be the reason many felt it suc cessful. Those disagreeing said that tiie entire weekend lacked spirit ami participation because of conflict with Thanksgiving vaca tion. In answer to "Was Homecoming Weekend a success this year?" students answered: Tottsir Ross freshman in politi cal sciene "Yes. The alums seem ed very enthusiastic, and there was a lot of spirit at the game."
