The stanine system is a new method in use for the first time this year. It was developed by the State System of Higher Education, and is now being used by all of the state colleges. Its goal is to equal ize the number of students in each numerative group. This was im possible while the decile system was in use, and resulted in a large number of students being bunched into the 4 to 7 category, with ouly a few students spread out from 1 to 3 and from 7 to 9. The stanine number is figured on the basis of the number of A’s a student has on his record. A per son having a large number of A s receives a high stanine rating, while a student who has only a few A’s and many B's and C's re ceives a lower rating. •Disc Rooms Open In SU Oct. 10 The music listening room* of the Student Union will be open for public listening about Oct. 10, Carolyn Welch, music committee chairman, has announced.
