In Weekend Tilt
The Oreo-on Duck basjhall nine will battle the Oregon State
Beavers l'ridav on Howe bielil anil Saturday at Corvallis.
The two games will be the final encounters of the season tor
the Webfoots, who are now in fourth place in the Northern Di\ i
sion with a 7-7 win-loss record.
The Beavers are deadlocked for first place in the conteienci
standings, holding a record oi eigiu
wins and four setbacks. The two l
frames with Oregon wilt complete
the seasons schedule for the Ag
gies, who will not replay two rain- j
ad-out games with the-celler-dwell
iug Idaho Vandals.
Huskies Mefct Vandals
"The Washington Huskies, present '
no-holders of first place in the
JN.D. standings, will face Idaho at
Moscow Friday and Saturday and j
Washington State Monday and |
"Tuesday at Pullman.
If Washington and OSC both re
main undefeated during their re
maining tilts, the title will go to
the Huskies because they will have
a 12-4 record, while tht; Beavers
will have a 10-4 mark.
The Washington State Cougars
also rate as strong contenders for
the N.D. pennant and the right to
■meet the Southern California Tro
jans for the Pacific Coast Confer
ence championship.
Cougars Slight Win
The Cougars, who are seeking
their fifth consecutive N. D, flag,
hold a 9-5 conference record and
could take first place by defeating
Washington twice if Oregon takes
at least one win from the Beavers.
The Cougars suffered an S-6 non
conference setback at the hands of
Eastern Washington College Mon
day afternoon at Cheney.
Friday’s clash will be the fifth of
the season between Oregon and
OSC. The Beavers tuck two non
conference victories, dropping the
Ducks 10-4 at Eugene and 18-S at
Corvallis.
In the two conference games, the
old intra-state rivals split, Oregon
taking an easy 10-2 victory last
Saturday at Eugene and losing
16-2 Monday afternoon at Cor
vallis.
Oregon Leads
Oregon holds a 43-29 all-time
series win-loss edge over the Beav
ers in N.D. competition. OSC has
never taken four wins over the
Ducks in one season, but Oregon
stopped the Aggies with four
straight victories in 1934 and again
in 1937.
During the weekend games, the
Webfoots will attempt to demon
strate the accuracy of the folow
ing statement appearing in the
1951 OSC Spring Sports Pressbook:
"After a glance at the gradu
ation losses and the material on
hand/ not even the most ardent
backer would predict a pennant for
the 1951 Oregon State baseball
team.”
