If Washington and OSC both re main undefeated during their re maining tilts, the title will go to the Huskies because they will have a 12-4 record, while tht; Beavers will have a 10-4 mark. The Washington State Cougars also rate as strong contenders for the N.D. pennant and the right to ■meet the Southern California Tro jans for the Pacific Coast Confer ence championship. Cougars Slight Win The Cougars, who are seeking their fifth consecutive N. D, flag, hold a 9-5 conference record and could take first place by defeating Washington twice if Oregon takes at least one win from the Beavers. The Cougars suffered an S-6 non conference setback at the hands of Eastern Washington College Mon day afternoon at Cheney. Friday’s clash will be the fifth of the season between Oregon and OSC. The Beavers tuck two non conference victories, dropping the Ducks 10-4 at Eugene and 18-S at Corvallis. In the two conference games, the old intra-state rivals split, Oregon taking an easy 10-2 victory last Saturday at Eugene and losing 16-2 Monday afternoon at Cor vallis. Oregon Leads Oregon holds a 43-29 all-time series win-loss edge over the Beav ers in N.D. competition. OSC has never taken four wins over the Ducks in one season, but Oregon stopped the Aggies with four straight victories in 1934 and again in 1937. S- 4154 Athletic Award ProposalsMade For Webfoots Recommendations have been made On the awarding of Oregon varsity letters to six golfers mid four members of the Duck tennis squad, Athletic News Bureau Di rector Art Lttchman announced Tuesday night. Golf letters have been recom mend! d for Ron Clark, Dave Frey, Fred Mueller, Fred Strebel, Jim Hoogs, and Bob Atkinson. Clark and Frey won their first golf letters last spring. Frey is the only graduating member of Coach Sid Milligan's 1951 Duck vursity which captured its third consecutive Northern Di vision dual meet crown and placed second in the annual N.D. Meet. Tennis letters have been recom mended for Tom MacDonald, Dan Cudahy, Nell George, and Don Nemas. MacDonald and Cudahy will be receiving their second var sity letters. Cudahy is the only graduating 1951 letterman. Ducks placed second in the Meet. Tha N.D. St. Louis Rise Led by Jones The comeback of Vernal i Nippy i Jones has injected new life into the | St. Louts Cardinals. The rise in the fortunes of tha ! Cards dates from Jones' return to the varsity on May 15. Jones, whose career appeared ended two years ago when he was floored with spinal injury, looked j great in the spring but big Steve, j Bilko was awarded the first base job Jones was shunted to the Cards’ | Rochester Farm in the Interna j tlonal League. Despite the demotion Jones didn't sulk. He banged the ball hard and ' often for the wings. Each received individual trophies as well as hav ing their names placed on the permanent trophy for mixed doubles.
