Optimistic Spirit Typifies Final Trio of Candidates In Betty, Joe Competition By Andy Friedle Three final candidates for Joe College and Betty Coed will be introduced today. They are Hal Dunham, Theta Chi; Jane Knecht, Alpha Delta Pi; and Rod Bell, Al pha Tau Omega. Voting for the 12 finalists for the titles will take place at the Whiskerino Saturday night. Win ners will be announced during in termission. Hal Dunham “The team’s looking terrific, so we’ve got to beat St. Mary’s.” The foregoing statement sums up the usual thoughts of Hal Dun ham. Hal, who is 6’ 1”, weights 180 pounds, has blue eyes, and brown hair, plays in the quarter back position on the Oregon sec ond-string varsity team. Walla Walla high school of Washington claims this possible Joe College as one of its graduates. While in high school, Hal was all state quarterback for two years and was chosen as the most valu able football player in Washington during his senior year. Jane Knecht Jane, whose vital statistics add up to something like 5’ 4”, 115 pounds, blue eyes, and blond hair, lives on the McKenzie River in Vida, Ore. “So many people think of the McKenzie in connection with walk outs, but it’s really beautiful coun try for a home,” Jane believes. For three summers she has work ed as a waitress in Albert’s Lodge on the river and says she thorough ly enjoys the work. Petitions may be turned in to Miss Cartozian by 5 p.m. Mon day at Hendricks Hall. Frosh-Rook Clash (Continued from i>aae four) duty of stalemating Oregon State’s single-wing attack. The major passing chores will be handled by Spreen, who com pleted three of four aerials for two touchdowns in the Willamet te clash last Friday. Spreen’s tosses accounted for 84 yards, or an average of 21 yards for every pass attempt. Hostetler was the leading ground gainer in the Willamette game. He gained 61 yards in 9 tries, averaging 6.8 yards per try. Reserve Halfback Jim Gun nell also was outstanding as he gained 53 yards in 5 attempts for a 10.6 average. Offensive Wingmen Left End Don Hedgepeth and Right End Frank Krause will be the offensive wingmen for Ore gon today. Rex Winters will start at left tackle, and Darold Farr, Portland all-city prep selection, will be the offensive right tackle. The other offensive linemen will be Left Guard Howard Allman, Center Dave Lowe, and Right Guard Jack Southworth. She was also interested in sports, an interest which has carried over to her college life. Rod Bell “My athletic ability is nothing to brag about, but I’m good as a spectator,’’ candidate Rod Bell commented when interviewed. However, at the mention of most sports, Rod admits he has played them. Klamath Falls is Rod’s home, where he graduated from Klam ath Union high school. "It’s a great school. There’s none other like it, believe me.” This summer Rod worked for his dad in his retail hardware store. He hopes to go into his dad’s business when he graduates from school. Business administration, with a definite eye on the mer chandising field, is Rod’s major. A.W.S. Auction (Continued from page one) Delta Tail Delta and Theta Chi will replace Curt Finch and his orchestra, previously announced. The Zeta Tau and Phi Delt groups will also give a preview of their talents. Smaller articles will be priced beforehand and placed on card tables at the SU at 3 p.m. These will be sold out-right, Betty Bon er, collection chairman, explained. Last year, Chi Omega obtained the hashing and entertainment ser vice of the Kappa Sigs for $31.75, while Kappa Sigma edged out Delta Tau Delta for the services of the Delta Gamma sophomore class with a $23.50 bid. , , A1 Student Night Called Success The first of a series of student nights at Willamette Park begins at 9:30 tonight. An entire staff of students, managed by Tom Barry, junior in political science, will run the park on Friday nights. Music will be furnished by Curt Finch, senior in architecture, who was a band leader in Boise, Idaho. Manager Tom Barry said that in termission entertainment has been obtained. Admission to the park is 74 cents. Dancing will last until 12:30 p.m. Jack Frost is still having his nips and keeping the rest of us stagger ing.
