Pres. Truman Honors Strash For Berlin Work Victor C. Strash, assistant pro: fessor of Slavic languages, has been commended by President Harry Truman and Secretary oi the Army Gordon Gray for his work with the American Military Government in Berlin following World War II. Strash has been teaching classes in Russian and Russian literature here since 1948. In the letter which forwarded the President’s statement, Secre tary Gray wrote: “It is with great pride that I transmit to you who have served in the United States Military Gov ernment in Germany, this message from the President of the United States. “As Secretary of the Army I feel that this generous praise from our Commander in Chief has been well earned by all of you who par ticipated in this great accomplish ment.” Following are excerpts from Truman’s letter: “I wish (to) convey ... to all the personnel—military and civil ian—who have participated in this historic work during these past four and a half years, the thanks of the President of the United States personally, and of the na tion, for the achievements of Mili tary Government in restoring and preserving the peace in Germany and in resisting fearlessly and suc cessfully the blockade of Berlin...” YWCA Sponsors Tea All foreign students, including those new to the , campus this term, are invited by the YWCA International Affairs committee to the latest in their series of coffee hours, 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the YWCA. Student Seats Open For Portland Talk By Mrs.Roosevelt Special student seats are being reserved and ticket rates set for a speech by Mrs. Eleanor Roose velt at 8:30 p.m. Jan. 22 in the Portland Public Auditorium. Mrs. Roosevelt will speak on “The United Nations and Port land.” She will be the first in a series of important personalities to be presented by the Northwest Forum. Seats set aside for students will be located in the first balcony. Tickets, ordinarily priced at $1.80, will be sold to students in this special section for $1, including tax. Since the number of seats avail able is limited, mail orders may be sent to the Northwest Forum, 821 S.W. 9th Avenue, Portland. Stu dents are asked by Martin Foster, Forum president, to enclose a check covering the price of all seats requested, the name of the students’ school, and a self-ad dressed, stamped envelope. If seats are still available in the student section after Jan. 19, tick ets for these will be sold to stu dents with student body cards through the box offioe at J. K. Gill and Co. in Portland.
