The underdog Oregon football team will leave at 7:30 p.m. today on the Southern Pacific Cascade for Berkeley and the unbeaten Cal ifornia Bears. Head Coach Jim Aiken said last night his squad is suffering from more injuries than at any time this year. Although none of these bumps are serious, several threaten to sideline key men in the Duck line-up. Suffering from a leg injury is Johnny McKay, elusive halfback who saw extensive action in last week’s Washington fray. Fullback Bob Sanders has a badly bruised side where he'took a Husky knee in the first half of last Saturday’s contest. The bruise was aggravated by San der’s full-time action in the sec ond half of the game. Sidelined with a knee injury is End Darrell Robinson. All three men will probably be in shape for the Cal battle, but are likely to be put out of the game if hit in the wrong place. AIKEN WORRIED Several other players are also suffering from minor injuries, Aik en said. “The situation has me badly worried,” the head mentor declar ed. Aiken scrimmaged his fit play ers with pads against California plays. He expressed worry over the way the Webfoot defense against many of these plays is shaping up, but said the team “looked good” as a whole. Two changes in the defensive line-up were listed by Aiken yes terday. Hay Karnofski will put in time at the defensive right half spot and Hale Paxton will see ac tion at the right end position on de fense. The head coach indicated there may be other changes in the defensive squad before the final gun of the 'Bear hunt. BACKFIELD READY TO GO Gentleman Jim listed as his starting backfield for the Berkeley battle the quartet of Earl Stelle at quarterback, Woodley Lewis and George Bell at halfbacks, and Bob Sanders at the fullback post. Bell’s ankle is almost completely healed, Aiken stated, and there is little chance that it will impede the charging senior’s progress. Thirty-seven players will take the trip to the Southland. The Webfoot contingent will Swim Team Sees Good Season in ND Competition Preparing for the 1950 season, Coach John Borchardt’s varsity swimmers have been training hard in the University pool during re cent weeks. The Ducks will open the season Feb. 4 at Corvallis when they re new their old rivalry with Oregon State College. With only four paddlers lost from the 1949 squad and with tlie return of two members of the honorary All-Time Oregon team, prospects for a successful season are excellent. The two members of the All Time team, Lotuis Santos and Jim Stanley, both gained valuable points for Oregon last spring at the Northern Division meet, in which the Ducks captured third place. Stanley won the Northern Divi sion diving championship and could easily repeat in 1950.
