by Fred Young “Lust we forget’’ we’ve been mis spelling the guy’s name who has ap peared here the most recently. It seems to be Philip Morris (one ‘L'l. In order to get our cut out of this: Again—two cartons of Phil’s fags to Bob Tweedell who assumes the responsibility for the name of this column, and one carton to the run ner-up, Dad, who named the auth or. All three cartons of Philip Mor ris’ courtesy of Bob Hamill, your courteous campus agent, who is ringed to Tri-Delt Jo Bjelland. Perhaps it would be simpler just to list those who didn’t manage at least one picnic this weekend. But, despite the clear, dry weather and house dances the matrimonial list is slim. In order to satisfy our readers OAPi Elaine Nemerovsky, a first year B.A. student, took Chi Psi Ken Saxon’s pin. Also, with the OAPi’s Marilyn Tykeson received Ron Fraedrick’s DU pin. Upon appearing in class Monday with a bright sunburn, Dr. Dull ad mitted he got it this weekend in the stacks. Alpha Gam Donna Stageberg 1948 Junior Weekend princess re ceived a rock from Phi Psi Bob Ben nett. No mention of the date as yet. SAM Stan Nagel dropped a pin on ex-U of O Evelyn Davis who is now working in Portland. Rumors circulating that both Mrs. Turnipseed and Mrs. Wick ham are investigating the three kit tens that arrived in the Gamma hall front room. The widely sought Theta Kloh Ann Mayer gained stratospheric Bob Amacher’s Beta badge. Tri-Delt Bev Buckley now sport ing Dave Robathan’s Delt jewelry. The only house dance that seemed tc manage. Also Barbara Hamilton is wearing George Moorhead’s DU pin. Another engagement with Joan Reid., of Gamma hall making a cross-country hookup with George Newman of the University of Mary land. Assuming that “April in the Rain” coudln’t miss, the Alpha Xi’s had to leave umbrellas in the closet as their house dance enjoyed per fect weather. Seems that you can’t ever keep everybody happy. How ever, don’t sell the way they get their house cleaned up after the dance short. In fact, the longer the better. Hank Panian, Campbell clubber, swiped Alpha Xi Virginia Wright from the infirmary long enough to let her see what she was missing at her house dance. Phi Theta, Junior women's hon orary, are going to help the young ladies grow with their “Keep Off The Grass” drive. A regular “Green Up” campaign. It will be announced pretty soon, as they’re giving it a little mo’ consideration. The argyle department is getting too hot so we’re with—who has the pledge button? This week it’s Al pha Gam pledge Theda Elbrader and Beta pledge Bill Davis. Good News! Pi Phi Aileen Bets chart isn’t engaged after all. She must've announced it April 1st, too. Lawyers’ Queen Elections Omit Ordinary Girl SMALL GROUPS of serious young men clustered in the cor ridors of Fenton hall this week as a mixture of glamor and politics was building up to Thursday af ternoon’s election of this year's Law School Weekend “queen.” The boys know what they want. “She” has to be a queen in ev ery sense of the word. Some pre fer blondes, some brunettes, and some redheads, but the odds mak ers frankly favor a small field of bald-headed men. THE IDEAL QUEEN will prob ably be a cigar-chomping, billiard topped third year student who is beefy and can “hold” a lot. Three favorites who will be mentioned in Thursday’s voting are Avery (Age Before Beauty) Combs, Bill (Bil liard B.) Cramer, and Fred (Halo Head ) Starkweather. Bookmakers circulating through the stacks early in the week said that the Carney twins, Dick and Bob, whose backers want to see them named “Co-queen,” look mighty good. Campaigning under the slogan, “Which Twin Has the Phoni?”, the redheads are a shoo-in for princess if the bald-head faction aces them out for top spot. ED ALLEN, PRESIDENT of the law school student body, ob served that the reason the elec tions are being held early (law school weekend is scheduled for April 30) is to prevent the so called junior weekend committee from stealing the law school's queens for its own festivities which are understood to be scheduled elsewhere on the campus this term. FLOWER GIRLS will be select ed from among the second and first year students, with little re gard to what houses they inhabit. The law students follow the merit system in selecting the royal court, and flower girls will be chosen on the basis of weight, talent, age, and “capacity.” The only two women in the law school have been disqualified for competition, it being felt by the majority of the students that it would be unfair to subject the oth er candidates to “that kind of competition.” The women still have the right to vote, however, law students being notoriously demo cratic. Activities Make rChet’ dBusy Coed By Joanne Hewitt With AWS week-end but a few days away, Mildred Chctty is busily helping with the finishing touches. She has been invitation chairman I for this event for the past two years. This pretty, light brown haired, blue-eyed girl was recently elected to serve as vice president for AWS, having previously been treasurer and sergeant-at-arms. •Chet, as she is known to every one, has been active as a member of Kwama, Phi Beta, Jr. Adviser for the YWCA, and Phi Theta. During this year she has been in charge of the faculty firesides, and is dec oration chairman for the All-camp us sing. Activities in her sorority, Delta Gamma, have included the offices of activities chairman, treasurer, and rushing chairman. That Sigma Chi cross she is seen wearing is the property of Ralph Stratford with whom she places bets to sec who'll get the best giades. At present she's behind Strat. Knitting and bridge are favorite pastimes as is skiing, although she didn't have much time for the lat ter this year. Swimming is another hobby. A merchandising major, she is deeply interested in dramatics, but she hasn’t participated- much in productions since her days at Grant High in Portland. Women's Page Co-ed Clothesline By Maryfran Lorain and Ka.v Kuckenberg “In your Easter bonnet with all the frills upon it, you'll be the grandest lady in the Easter Pa rade.” Familiar is the tune; famil iar- are the words; but, every year the Easter bonnet is new and dif ferent. In 1928, tight-fitting cloche hats were the rage. 1935 brought the huge straw hat in natural, black, brown, w-hite and a variety of oth er color tones. 1940 featured the small frilly hat which had quanti ties of trims; bouquets of flowers, veiling, and satin ribbons—hats which perpetually boasted the fem inine moral, and depleted the male bankroll. Today the spotlight is on small, practical hats, which win the coed's approval not only for their smartness, but for their inexpen . siveness as well. Simplicity, the keynote of chic today, should guide you in your Selection of on Easter | hat. There is the basic beret which was so popular this winter, and is being again worn in vivid kelly greens and reds. There is the semi cloche. reviewed from our moth er's decade, which is finding favor among smart dressers today. There is, of course, the perennial sailor. Always flattering, always chic, it is worn slightly tilted this year. To go with these becoming new bonnets are spring suits of all col ors and styles. Many coeds are taking last year’s suits, and with a few skillful additions are fash ioning a new outfit. Last year's navy blue, which you wore with white accessoreis, is now a new suit by simply adding a small kelly beret and scarf, or a tiny blond straw cloche with blond leather shoes and bag. White suits can easily be dyed one of the soft pas tel shades that are worn every spring. For one who is handy with needle and thread, 194S's long jacket can quickly be converted into one of this season's short fly jackets. Above all, remember to choose clothes that are fresh and neat. And then, truly, you’ll be the grandest lady in the Easter pa rade.
