Candidate Earl Warren to Speak At McArthur Court Friday Night Republican vice- presidential candidate Earl Warren, slated to speak in McArthur court Friday night at 7:30 p. m„ is the first speaker scheduled on the fall term University educational program. Warren was unanimously elected to be Thomas Dewey’s running mate at the G.O.P. Philadelphia convention last July. Gov. of California Since 1942 Governor of California since 1942, Warren received both the Republican and the Democratic nominations in the 1946 California primaries under the state’s cross filing system. He is on the execu tive committee of the Governors Conference. Earl Warren was born in Los Angeles in 1891. He received his J. Career Began in 1919 The Republican candidate began his political career as clerk of the judiciary department of the Cali fornia legislature in 1919. He was deputy district attorney of Ala meda county from 1920 to 1925 and district attorney until 1938. He was elected attorney gener al of California in 1938 and held the post until he became governor. Warren has been active in legal circles. From 1927 to 1942 he was chairman of the board of managers of the state bureau of criminial identification and investgiation. He was also research associate of the bureau of public administration at the University of California. An active Republican, he was chairman of the state central com mittee from 1934 to 1936, and a national committeeman from 1936 to 1938. He was an alternate dele gate to the 1928 G.O.P. national convention. A ‘Belonger’ Warren received the U. S. Flag association award for law en forcement in 1934. He is a member of the American Bar association, State bar of California, Alameda county bar association, District Attorneys association, Peace Offi cers association, and the Interna tional association of chiefs of po lice. Among the fraternal organiza tions to which the California gov ernor belongs are: Pi Delta Phi, law honorary; Sigma Phi, social fraternity; Shriners; Elks; Native Sons of the Golden West; Bohem ian club; Olympic club and Com monwealth club.
