‘Westminster Head to Arrive . On Saturday *■ The national director of West minster student work, Rev. Ken , neth Reeves, will arrive in Eugene Saturday on a tour of the one hun » dred Westminster Foundations from coast to coast. Mr. Reeves will address the t Westminster forum Sunday eve ning at 6:30. His subject will be announced tomorrow. Under Mr. Reeves’ leadership the Westminster Fellowship program - of the Presbyterian church in cludes a half million young people. , In June, 1947, four years after the launching of the program, 1800 delegates and 200 adult advisers ' met at Grinnell, Iowa for the first national assembly of young people *. in the history of the church. Ten delegates represented Westminster Fellowship at the World Confer ence of Christian Youth at Oslo, Norway in July, 1947. » Mr. Reeves is a graduate of Has tings college (Nebraska), and of Auburn Seminary, where he won * the Maxwell Fellowship award for study abroad. He spent a year at the London School of Economics, London university, under Profes sor R. H. Tawney. Mr. Reeves will be the guest speaker at the Sunday morning service of the Fairmount Presby terian church at Fifteenth and Vil lard streets in Eugene. All university students are eligible to vote in the election. The official poll book, compiled in the registar's office, will be used in checking names of voters. D. Richards, soph omore in business administration, has won third prize, $100, in a na tion-wide contest sponsored by the National Council of American Im porters. Richards’ 5,000-word thesis, “Im ports Make World Trade,” compet ed with entries from 21 other col leges, including Harvard, Colum bia, Fordham, Northwestern, Stan ford, and the University of Califor nia. His summary stated that at tempts for world trade lack coor dination and are to some extent confused by illogical thinking. Richards was the only entry fron the University. This is the first year of the contest but it will be sponsored annually by the council, The National Council of Ameri can Importers is an organization of. about six hundred American firms directly concerned with the busi ness of import. Purpose of the student awards for the best theses is to encourage a better understanding of two-way world trade. ‘A Concrete Workable Platform’ Check for Yourself During every election campaign candidates and parties are noted for promising \oteis and particularly students- a long detailed platform of promises without ever contemplating any forward action for the adoption of their party planks. This is not the case with the Affiliated Students Association or their candidates. Before the last election ASA candidates pledged their support to a five plank platform. The points were: 1. A Bill Hayward WEEKEND!!! 2. Support of the Student Union Drive. 3. Centralization of all campus drives. 4. Formation of a Mill Race Committee 5.
