WAA Tournaments To Open Tuesday The WAA badminton tourna ments will open Saturday and the regular schedule of games will start Tuesday at 3 p.m. The tour nament was originally scheduled to start Thursday but due to the lack of space on the practice courts, the tournament was delayed. A complete list of contestants will be published in the Emerald at a later date. Florence Hintzen, former Tri Delt house prexy, announced her engagement to DU Herb Trainer, and likewise for Marilyn French to Tex Carter of Portland. Back on the campus after their mar riage Christmas eve are Chi Psi Hon Sipe and the former Tri Delt Dawn Carson. Latest scoop is 'the,, campaign ing of Dencie Howard (sophomore in the art school, if that is any explanation) for ChiO house mother. She has been delivering her platform with her party back ers on the sleeping porches. Mrs. Van, incumbent, seems uncon cerned, however, and says she will run for a fourth teerm. Odds Scholastic Meeting Scheduled Tonight Scholarship chairmen for all women’s living organizations have been asked to attend a meeting at 6:45 p.m. tonight in alumni hall of Gerlinger. The meeting is planned by Mrs. Golds P. Wickham, dean of women, for women students on scholastic probation. It is imperative that all women students with a fall term GPA be low 2.00 or with an accumulative below 2.00 to be present, Mrs. W’ickham said. have it that Mrs. Van will win by a sleeping porch. A most steady combo nowa days are Theta Janet Ritea and the newly initiated Phi Delt Don Farnum. Also Sally Waller of the Theta palace and Chi Psi Hank Kinsell make a swell duo. Up at Susan Campbell, Norma Allen and Don Blyth are a constant pair on the doorstep. Fashion note of the week: DG Helen McGlllicuddy sporting the “New Look" corsage of ivy trail ing to her hemline at the dance after the game last weekend. Why not hold classes at the in firmary? That’s where most of us belong anyway. Pi Phi Ginny Walker has been getting her daily quart of orange juice delivered by Sigma Nu Darrell Robinson to whom she is pinned. Both Theta Mary Jean “Reefer” Reeves’ roommates are under the doc’s care too for chicken pox. So if you’ve been near Ruth Eades or Peg Daugherty, start worrying as Reefer is! What has been happening to the love life of ATO Bill “The Greatest” Monroe lately? That’s a question, not an innuendo. Big circle on 'the calendar for this weekend is the Senior Brawl. Sweetser’s collection of water colors of Oregon's wild flowers and fungi is now on dis play in the main circulation room J at the University library. Mrs. j Sweetser painted these watercolors 1 while accompanying her botanist husband on his field trips. Originally from Massachusetts, ■ the Sweetsers went to Pacific uni .versity in 1897. In 1902 Sweetser I was appointed head of the biology j department in the University of | Oregon, later becoming head of botany. He was retired to emeri tus status in 1931 and was recog nized by the University with an honorary degree of .doctor of science. Carrie Sweetser followed her husband's interest in botany with her love of wild flowers. She painted the flowers that he studied for his handbook, "Key and Flora, Some of the Common Flowers of Oregon.” Mrs. Sweetser had never studied art and picked up the technique of water colors as she worked with them.
