Webfoot coach John Warren re vealed that again today, the Ore gon cage squad will hold only a; light workout, during which the candidates will sharpen up their shooting eyes for the Aggie en counter. Instead of taking the usual 12 man traveling team to Corvallis for the game, Warren is taking his entire squad on the Beaver trip .However, because of the 3200 limited seating capacity in th<3 I Oregon State court, these will I probably comprise the only Oregon boosters to witness the skirmish. Beavers on Top The Webfoots are knotted for second place in the league race with Washington and Idaho, each having one victory and one defeat. The Beavers, coached by veteran Slats Gill, now rest atop the Northern Division heap with three wins in four starts. Recording all of their victories on the stiff Inland Empire in vasion, Oregon State features a steady set-em-up style of play. Lacking much-needed height under the backboards, the Beavers have made up in part for this deficiency with their accurate shooting . Carey High-Scorer Forward Norm Carey, ranked the fastest man on the Aggie squad, paces his team in scoring with 44 points in the quartet of games. He hit his peak in the final Idaho game, when he tallied 18 markers . Dan Torrey, ex-Grant high flash, is second in scoring for the Beav ers, at 33 points, along with Cliff Crandall, floor sparkplug and top offensive and defensive ace in the Gillmen aggregation. Petersen Out According to publicity released from the Oregon State campus, Alex Petersen, veteran performer whom the Aggies were counting upon heavily at center this year, is definitely out o? the contest. Petersen has been sidelined re cently with an attack of tonsilitis, but reports state that he will be back in action near the end of January. In his absence, Ken Storey has been operating at the important pivot post. However, Storey has been able to score only 13 points in the four ,league contests. — COLLEGE CAGE SCORES By United Press DePaul 69, St. Johns 66. Rhode Island 94, New Hampshire I 59. Geneva 40. Ore- - »on's flashv quintet of freshmen hoopsters will exhibit their, prowess with a basketball tonight at 7:30 in McArthur court, . when they take on the OSC Rooks from Corvallis in the first of > four “junior Civil war" battles scheduled between the two ^ squads. Frosh Coach Carl Heldt held a light scrimmage session yes terday afternoon, finishing drills for the Aggie contest. Heldt's charges will have the ad vantage of more actual game ex perience, since the Baby Beavers, mentored by Paul Valenti, have only one game under their belts this season, that being a 50-31 win over the Willamette university frosh squad. Ducklings Take inrce In their previous games, the Lemon and Green yearlings deci sioned Benson high of Portland 49-32, and walloped The Dalles and Washington high of Portland 77-32 and 50-38 respectively. They have rackd up an average of 58.6 points per contest, while holding their op ponents to 34 per game. Duckling standouts so far have been Jack Keller and Don Peter son at the guard posts and Will Ur ban and Bob Taggesell in the for ward line. Keller and Peterson both handle the ball nicely and pour in their share of counters. Keller han dles himself much like Bob Lavey, varsity speed-burner. Urban and Taggesell have the backboard sit uation sewed up, and have been well up in the scoring column. Ernie Wilde, ex-Eugene all-stater and fifth member of the first string, teams with Urban at forward. Subs Bolster Starters Capable reserves, including Brad Fullerton, Leroy Coleman, Rod Slade, and Dick Mase, bolster Ore gon’s starting five, and Heldt sub stitutes freely.
