French Speaker Slated Thursday “The Spirit of Contemporary French Painting and Music” will be the topic of M. Jacques Donvez when he speaks Thursday night at 7:30 in the music school auditorium. The lecture, to be illustrated with slides and piano selections, is spon sored by the University lecture se ries. The trip to the United States is Donvez’s first. He is making a six months’ tour on behalf of the French government to establish close cul tural relations between the United States and France. Donvez has made arrangements to stay several days in Eugene so that he can visit the coast and the country around Eugene. Pi Delta Phi, French honorary, is giving a dinner at the faculty club Friday evening at 6 in honor of Don vez. M. Donvez will also speak in French to students and anyone in terested Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. at 107 Friendly. His topic will be French student life. Symposium Trip Set The next trip of the symposium team of the speech department will take place March 11 and 12. Speak ing on the topic, “What Should be the Policy of the Government To ward Management and Labor ?” will be Walter Mead, sophomore in lib eral arts, chairman; Robert Kings bury, freshman in liberal arts; El win Paxson, freshman in journal ism; and Ralf Erlandson, freshman in law. Accompanying the team will be Lester Harris, instructor in speech. Included in the tour is Central Point high school, Medford Rotary, Rogue River Civic club, Grants Pass Lions, Jacksonville high school, Medford high school, Grants Pass high school, and Medford Lions club. Speech Topic Revealed “Should the Government Outlaw Portal to Portal Pay?’’ will be the topic of the radio discussion Thursday night at 8:15 over KOAC, to be presented by the forensic di vision of the University speech de partment. Speaking will be Warren Miller, junior in journalism; Hugh Cook, freshman in law; and Tom Powell, freshman in law. The program is under the direc tion of Robert D. Clark, associate professor of speech and drama. Newburn last week. The project will be conducted un der the direction of Dr. Francis J. Reithel, assistant professor of chemistry, at an estimated cost of $7,253.31. It will cover a period of one year beginning last February 1.
