Three Killed As Streamliner Hits Gas Tank FRESNO, Calif., Feb. 4—(AP) The crack Southern Pacific train, San Joaquin Daylight, crashed into a gasoline tank truck-trailer at Kingsburg at 3:25 p.m. today and at least three persons were killed as flames swiftly engulfed the 14 car streamliner. Estimates of the number of in jured ranged from as low as 25 to as many as 100, the latter the figure of the Kingsburg chief of police. The injured were taken from Kings fcurg, 20 miles south of Fresno, to hospitals at Selma, Fresno, Visalia and other communities in the area. Some were in the Kingsburg hospi tal. Among the injured is A. C. Haag, 60, president St A. C. Haag & Co., tractor and machinery firm, Salem, Ore., injuries to both ankles. All of the train except the last four cars, comprising a section of the • Sacramento Daylight, were burned, the railroad said. Neither the locomotive nor any of the cars was derailed. Quick action on the raises for the 15 top state officer sis expected, as the ways and means committee members want to know what salar ies will be to enable them to draft the budget. The governor would get the big gest increase, from $7,500 a year to $12,000. Atlantic Coast Shivers Under New Cold Wave By The Associated Press Winds of gale velocity blew a cold wave eastward to the Atlantic sea board Tuesday as much of the na tion felt the sting of winter’s sharp est blasts. The Frigid air mass, surging east ward at express train speed, sent temperatures into the fastest skid of the winter. Although lower read ings have been recorded this win ter, weather forecasters said the high winds made the current cold wave the most biting of the sea son. , Announcements Made Tuesday ASUO President Tom Kay Tues day appointed Hal Brevig, senior representative to the executive council, head of a committee, which will include Laura Olson and Don Pinkerton, sophomore representatives, to draw up a model constitution for the adop tion of all organizing classes. Five hundred seats at the Ore gon-Idaho game February 15 were made available for sale to Oregon Dads on registration. Those not sold will be made available to students. ASUO nominating, election, and installation of next year’s officers w'ere moved up to May 22, 27, and 29, respectively, at the request of Gil Roberts, vice-president in charge of elections. It was also suggested mat Ac tivities Manager Dick Williams be asked to obtain a speaker for the installation. Roberts, reporting on the Fresh man elections, said that Friday would be the last day for con testing the election. On that day the ballots will be burned. The council also approved a recommendation that only author ized ballot counters be present at counting time. Thirty dollars was appropriated from the ASUO miscellaneous fund on petition from Dad’s Day Chairman Bob Wallace for pro motion.
