Student Delegates to Attend International Relations Meet Delegates from the University of Oregon with those of forty other colleges will attend the annual regional conference of International Relation clubs of the Northwest on November 15 and 16 at Marylhurst College, near Portland, Oregon. Student round table discussions will center on the topic, “Does United Nations Organization Provide Means and Machinery to Solve the KroDiems (Jonirontmg world Peace.” Mrs. Malcolm W. Davis, represen tative of the Carnegie Endowment of New York will preside over the opening session at 10:00 ,a.m. Fri day. Formerly an editor of the “De lineator” and “Outlook” magazines, her semi-autobiographical account of her European experiences, “Peace Takes a Wife,” will be pub lished next year. “The United Nations From With in” is the topic of Dr. Frank Munk, professor of political science at Reed college, Portland, who will speak Friday evening. This session will be open to the public. Dr. Munk Organized training cen ters of the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation administration in England, Egypt, Greece, Italy, and other countries during the cru cial months of the war. Thus he was able to study the economical, politi cal, and relief problems of Europe and the near east. He also appoint ed director of training for UNRRA throughout the world. A social calendar to enable dele gates to become acquainted is being planned. Members of the Maryl hurst college, I.R.C. will arrange housing and transportation. CAMERA FANS! Lecture by Merryfield Scheduled for Monday Professor Fred Merryfield, teach er of sanitary engineering at Ore gon State College, will deliver a Sigma Xi lecture on “River Pollu tion” Monday evening, November 11, at 8 p.m. in 103 Deady hall. The lecture is open to the public. Before the lecture, at 7:15 p.m. in 105 Deady hall, there will be a business meeting of the Oregon chapter of Sigma Xi. UO Bible Group to Meet The weekly Bible study hour for the UO fellowship will be con ducted as usual from 8 to 9 a.m. today in the men’s lounge of Ger linger hall. Rosalind Rinker will preside. Druids Request Lists Tom Hazzard, Druid president, requests that all living organiza tions turn in their lists of junior men to the Druids as soon as pos sible. David Seamen, house adviser. One of the organizations will be the “Wesley Players,” a dramatic society, and the second will be a choral singing group. Mr. Seamen invites all students who are interested in these groups to please attend the meetings sched uled for tonight which will be at 7 and 8 p.m. respectively. Dr. Newburn to Speak Before Portland Groups President Harry K. Newburn will speak tonight at the family night dinner of the Portland Westminster Presbyterian church in Portland. Thursday noon he will address a luncheon of the Portland Lions club at the Heathman hotel. Dr. Newburn will speak on “In ternational Understanding and the Community” at both meetings. Civil Service Exams Given The state civil service commis sion has announced in a letter re ceived by Harry K. Newburn, pres ident of the University, that exam inations are riow being given in the clerical and caseworker series. Many vacancies exist in the state agencies. The unemployment com pensation commission, the public welfare commission, the board of health, and the crippled children's division of the University of Ore gon medical school, are in need of clerks, typists, caseworkers, and stenographers. To qualify, applicants must be citizens of the United States and residents of the state of Oregon. Educational qualifications depend on the different types of positions. They range from high school grad uation to college degrees. Pay runs from $125 to $175 a month. Advancement will depend upon length and quality of service. Application forms may be ob tained from the civil service com mission at 444 Center street, Sa lem, or 620 Mead building, Porv land; or any office of the public welfare commission, unemploy ment compensation commission, or employment service. Examinations will be held at var ious centers throughout the state. All application forms must be filed on or before November 18, or post marked before midnight of that date.
