Dad’s Day Rosters Due; Cup Awards Scheduled As of Monday night, Alpha Omicron Pi was the only women’s living organization to have registered its list of dads "with the dean of men’s office. Award Chairman Tom Kay em phasizes that all other groups must present a similar list before noon January 30 to be eligible to compete. The Norbland and Shaw trophies will be presented to the houses with the highest proportion of dads in attendance, and die Juauigaaxu Li (jpiiy Win gO LO the house with the largest per centage of freshmen dads register ing. The trophies will be awarded at half time at the Oregon-Washing ton basketball game. Rules Given The regulations under which the awards are to be made are: 1. The dads of women living in Eugene are not eligible and their daughters are not included in the You Can Be An AIRLINE STEWARDESS Today United Air Lines is seeking young women to begin the interesting career of flying the nation's airways as stewardesses on its Mainliners. The requirements are: •Age — 21 to 26 year* •Height -5' 2" to S’ 6” •Weight—125 Ibs.or less + "Unmarried •Good Health and Vision •United States Citizen •2 Years College, or Registered Nurse Successful applicants will be furnished transportation to Chi cago where they will receive four weeks training at full pay. Young women who can meet the above qualifications but who are not available for employment at the present time should apply now for future Stewardess classes. A new booklet "How to Be . come a Mainliner Stewardess” is now available. To obtain one, write or apply in person at Columbia Airport, Portland. Only such dads as are of ficially registered by 4:30 p.m. Saturday, February 2, will be credited to organizations for purposes of this competition. 3. Legal guardians will be con sidered as dads. 4. Prizes Vill be awarded an nually and will be kept for one year only, until won for three years, when they become perma nent property of the winning group. Lists Dae The president of each com peting organization should pre sent her list of dads of all mem bers immediately, so that they may be included as eligible to re ceive the cups if they have a winning registration. Winners at the last contest, in 1943, were Pi Beta Phi, Norblad trophy; Phi Gamma Delta, Shaw trophy, and Alpha Gamma Delta Laurgaard trophy. Other Dads’ Day work has been going on as planned. Last Friday a plane, piloted by Duke Denni son, showered the campus with leaflets promoting the write-home idea. Yesterday at lunch many of the living organizations had paper napkins advertising the idea of writing home. Students Injured In Auto Collision Minor injuries were sustained by four University students last night when their car rounded a corner at 463 Washington street between 4th and 5th, and collided with a parked car. The occupants, Wanda Shaw, Ken Jackson, Don Mayne, and Marilyn Sage, were all knocked unconscious by the concussion. They were taken to the Sacred Heart hospital where Miss Sage was treated for a cut eye and knee. None of the injuries were of a serious nature, although Mayne, driver of the car, clamped his tongue between his teeth when the cars hit. Both automobiles were badly damaged, the parked car to the extent of $150. Get some today for those treats in between meals. HOME BAKERY AND DELICATESSEN 86 E. Broadway Phone 4118 License Rule Hits Canines Smokey, well-known University figure, and the rest of his canine pals, who have been romping across the campus and wandering in and out of’ numerous classes of late, are in for a rude awakening March I, if the announcement made by J. W. Murray, city license inspect or, is any indication. According to Murray in an in terview Friday, dog licenses are now available and must be pur chased before March 1. Failure to comply with this ruling will result in a one dollar assessment per dog. Further restrictions to be en forced on the canine population will come with the gardening sea son which begins on the aforesaid March 1 and continues through August 31. During this period all dogs found wandering the streets of Eugene Unescorted Will be re moved therefrom, which action will cost the dog’s owner an additional dollar plus the dog’s board and room while he is a guest of the city. Veterans Take Posts In Physics Department D. R. Teeters and Lloyd Schil berg, returned veterans, have been appointed graduate assistants in the physics department. Teeters, who received his bache lor of arts degree in physics from Oregon State college in 1942, serv ed in the navy as a lieutenant in the submarine division. Schilberg, who will be a labora tory assistant, was graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a bachelor’s degree in engineering physics. He was there for three semesters as an undergraduate assistant before entering the army. A first lieutenant, he served for four and a half years, and recent ly returned from Korea. "Gerlinger Gals" Crash Campus Social Whirl The “Gals of Gerlinger’’ will start their social calendar off with a bang Wednesday night from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Many students on the campus (meaning men) are unaware that there are a group of women housed in Gerlinger and by pro moting a house party the gals hope to accomplish the purpose of ac quainting the campus with this fact. Ernest Haycox Named Oregon Alumni Prexy The University of Oregon Alum ni association has elected Ernest Haycox, class of ’23, as president, It was announced Thursday. Hay cox is well-known throughout Ore gon as a prominent Portland au thor. Mrs. Paul Patterson, ’24, wife of the state representative, was elect ed vice-president. Mrs. Patterson, who lives in Hillsboro, is active in alumni and civic activities. It is reported that the new of ficers have plans for increasing alumni activities and membership. Helen Poulten Named Graduate Assistant Appointment of Miss Helen Poulten of Sacramento, California, as graduate assistant in the his tory department was announced recently by Dr. Dan E. Clark, head of the department. Miss Poulten was graduated with high honors in social science from San Jose State college, Cali fornia, and will replace Joyce Clark McArthur. Don’t tell what Susy did!
