[ lie AA ebfoots last four games are convincing evidence that it doesn t take long for things to happen thick and fast around the Northern division. three weeks ago the Ducks had a seemingly secure two game lead over their nearest rivals. Not counting last night's game as this was written before game time, the Ducks now ha\e their back to the wall and are faced with the prospect of winning every game or else. Of course the other teams (OSC and A\ SC) are faced with the same situation, but Oregon or Oiegon State are sore to eliminate one or the other in their clash March 3. All of which strengthens the theory that the Northern di vision, Pacific coast conference league, is one of the toughest in the nation and can match baskets with anyone. I hey haven’t fared badly in national ratings either. During the past six years since the NCAA tournament to pick the national championship team has been in action, the northwest has won once, and taken second twice. West Takes the Lead Oregon walked off with first place honors in 1939 when the great "Alleycats teams was wearing the Lemon and Green, in 1940 and 1941 the Washington State Cougars took second place honors. the dope book goes a little further and lends itself to the 4lict that teams from the AA est play a better brand of ball than the East. The AVest has captured top honors for the past three years. Stanford in 1942, Wyoming in 1943, and Utah last year were all crowned as the top team in the country. Perhaps this year will prove us wrong, and the East will turn out the powerhouse club, but don’t count the Northwest out until the tourney at Kansas City is played next month. Ducks Wallop Idaho (Continued from page one) rapid order the rest of the squad poured in shots from all angles. '“'The Vandals staged a brief flur ry of points themselves in the clos ing minutes of the half and brought the score to a 15-point margin at 34-19. Both teams cooled off during the second period, although Idaho man aged to cut down their defect to 11 points when the final gun went off. Leonard Pyne for the Vandals and Ken Hays both hit the basket freely in the last half with Pyne garnering 10, and Hays 9 counters.
