! Red Cross Activities Invite Student Aid Red Cross activities are gaining momentum as the number of workers increases, Red Cross house representatives reported Monday. The knitting department is open for making of afghans, Betty Householder, knitting chairman announced. Each afghan will consist of 80 six-inch souares, knit on four or five gauge needles. Each girl win ouy ner own needles and yarn — bright-colored yarns preferred—and do the actual work at home. Mrs. Edith Siefert, hostess of Gerlinger hall, will give instruc tion. Anyone interested in form ing a knitting instruction class should contact Miss Householder at the Chi Omega house. discarded sweaters and knitted dresses should be turned in to Mrs. Siefert, who will unravel them and recondition the yarn for further use. Hoopsters John Warren’s casaba team again defeated the army 55 to 37 in a fast game played here on McArthur court last night. The team looked much better last night in their drive and shooting, and is expected to give Ted Sar pola’s team from Seattle a good showing this Friday and Satur day. Lane county chapter, at 43 W. A slight decrease from the pre vious week, in production of band ages, was noticed Saturday, No vember 4, when only 74 girls ap peared, she announced. Nurses’ Aides “A surprisingly small number of girls have signed up for nurses' aide work this term,” Mary Decker, nurses’ aide chairman, revealed. “The need for nurses’ aides is great ! this year. It is, therefore, the duty of all students with this training, to fulfill their pledged hours.” Blood Donors Permission cards for blood don ors under 21 years must be signed and returned before the arrival of the mobile unit in December, Sally Spiess, general Red Cross chair man, reminded workers. These cards are available from Mrs. Spiess at the Gamma Phi Beta house. Various tests have been made which seem to indicate that it is unnecessary for a violin to be old 1 to have an excellent tone. Broadway Frosh Pick New Theme For November 10 Dance After days of indecision and meetings, the freshmen have come up with a new theme for the Frosh Mixer. At this first dance by the class of ’i8 the Ducks will swing and sway at Gerlinger hall, Friday at 7:30 p.m. With “definitely different” decorations, refreshments, and entertainment, sophomores, jun iors, and seniors, as well as freshmen, are guaranteed the “time of their lives.” Watch for tomorrow’s paper, when the big announcement about the theme will be made! Students To Hear Norwegian Concert Norwegian music will be fea tured at the regular recorded con cert in the browsing room of the library Sunday, November 12, at 4 p.m. Records are from the library of Norwald S.
