Miss Ames last spring was chosen as the province candidate for the annual Amy B. Onken award of funds for further educa tion. The schools included in the province are: University of Idaho, University of Washington, Univer sity of Oregon, Washington State College, Oregon State College, and the University of British Columbia. Scholarship, participation in campus activities, contribution to the campus as a whole, and per sonality were the qualifications which won for Miss Ames the Pi Phi graduate scholarship. The pro motion of these elements of suc cessful coed living, with special emphasis on scholarship, will be the chief interest of the tall, dark haired Portlander when she takes over the responsibility of proctor ing the new chapter. Nancy Ames graduated with honors in English from the Uni versity last June and plans to study political science in Mary land. Her post-war blueprints in clude a possible trip to Europe to engage in some form of govern ment work, probably reconstruc tion activities in the liberated or captured nations. Due to the proximity of College Park, Maryland, to Washington, D.C., Miss Ames expects to contact some of the many Oregon alumni who are working in that city. She was on this campus during rush week to help the Pi Phis, speak to several of the professors, and to copy a list of the UO alumni who are living in the vicinity of the capital. Registration to Begin (Continued from pa/jc one) President’s reception will take place in the Alumni hall at 9 p.m. The traditional Hello dance will be substituted by a terrace dance and program in the hall. Yells and songs will be led by the rally squad and there will also be a talent program. Full details have not yet been revealed. ■■ - .=n I J I DEAR JUNIORS ... head the back-to-the campus parade in 3>ac$dortd. Neat as a pin and pert as a freshman’s line. Sizes 9 to 15.
