Diet Course Gains Credit Principles of dietetics is the official title of the course that will earn a Red Cross certificate for girls taking the course this term, it has been announced by Miss Mabel Wood, head of the home economics department. This is a regular course given by the home economics depart ment, but spring term one sec tion of girls enrolled will be tak ing it for a double purpose: to two hours of University credit, and to earn a Red Cross nutrition certificate which is given for twenty hours of work of this type. Combination The girls who enrolled in the special section of this course are planning to take also another course directly from the Red Cross which will fit them for work as members of a canteen unit to serve food in case of an emergency and prepare meals for troops that may pass through their area. The principles of dia tetics will prepare them for this special ten-hour course. - The course is a combination of lectures and demonstrations. Text for the study is "Nutrition and Physical Fitness,” by Bogart. Dietary essentials and some prac tical nutrition problems will be discussed. Some aspects of nutri tion that are studied are weight control, digestion, and child feed ing. National Defense Girls taking the course in or der to prepare themselves for the national defense work should contact Miss Wood before the end of the term to determine what time it will be most convenient -#f)r all concerned to have the class. The ceremony took place in the Alpha Xi Delta house with Lois Nordling, outgoing president, con ducting the installation. Following the ceremony the new and old officers and the old cabinet members had dinner to gether. Miss Nording gave a brief resume of the work that the YW has done in the last year and made suggestions for improve ment. Bobsie Roehm presented her with a small silver fork from Mrs. E. E. DeCou and the cabinet members in appreciation of her fine leadership. Guests present were Mrs. Hazel P. Sehwering, dean of women; Mrs. Garnet Waterhouse, house mother; and Mrs. DeCou, YW secretary. ISA Senators To Head Meet All ISA senate members have been asked to turn out for a meet ing Wednesday afternoon at 4 o'clock, Gerry Huestis, president of the group announced at the ISA cabinet meeting Monday. Several important questions will be brought up, according to Huestis, and all senate members should be present. A proposed amendment to the ISA constitution will be discussed, as well as the regional conven tion which will possibly be April 10 and 11 at the University of Idaho. A discussion of the election procedure for the coming ASUO election will be part of the pro gram, according to Huestis. The proposed all independent open house will also be brought up at the meeting. Use the CLASSIFIEDS Phone 3300, 354 SDX Promotion Activities Start A letter from a senator and scouring of recruiting offices for slogans during the past few weeks started promotional activ ity for Sigma Delta Chi's General McArthur dance March 28 in Mc Arthur court. Senator Scott Lucas (111.) sent a list of famous quotations, which he read in the senate January 12, to the Oregon chapter of the na tional professional journalism society for use at the dance. Painted quotations will be the principal decoration. Recruiting offices were visited in a search for famous military sayings. Money from the dance will be used by the society for the pur chase of civilian defense equip ment. SDX members are inves tigating the feasibility of an emergency fire cart. Spring Varieties The all-campus dance will feat ure the Spring Varieties, talent show composed of students with entertainment experience. The script will follow Hellzapoppin’ style. Ted Harmon and Jeff Kitchen are co-chairmen of the dance. Jim Bronson, Jerry Lakefish, and Ed Zelinsky are in charge of the Va rieties.
