Hounds for Publiciuy Present Candidates For King of Dogs By RUBY JACKSON You’ve seen them in the classroom, you’ve fallen over them in the library, you’ve stepped on them in the “Side,” you’ve petted them and cursed them alternately, and now you will choose one of them “King of Campus Dogs” at the Frosh Glee Saturday night. Advance publicity for each candidate has been pouring in from each organization sponsoring an entrant. Naturally, each dog is the best. ‘Amos Jones’ “Amos Jones,” a one-year-old Heinz (57 varieties) dog offered by the Sammies, is taking 14 hours of classwork. In his spare time he reads the funnies, sleeps with his paws in the air, and fights. To quote the Sammies, he is “the most affectionate dog on the campus—in every way.” ‘Duke’ Nine times a week or one and one-half times a day “Duke,” the Betas’ dog, beats up on the Sigma Nu dog (according to the Betas). A two-year-old collie with papers, Duke is said to be a good fight er, and loves the millrace. ‘Sparky Sigma’ None of the Kappa Sigs know the origin of their "Sparky Sig ma,” so he is affectionately termed a "what-is-it” by the boys. Originally a perfectly formed dog, Sparky unfortunate ly had his tail amputated one day by a truck. But he can still bark, and knows a lot of tricks. ‘King’ A peace-loving dog who loves to fight is the Fiji’s “King,” a German shepherd. He loves little children, and spends his time “romping and rollicking in the rosy spring’-or so the Fijis say. ‘Baron’ Biggest entrant to date is Baron, the Great Dane of Delta Tau Delta. Baron’s favorite sport is following people around, espe cially girls. ‘Mike’ The dog who has a reputation for “getting around” is Mike, the three year old German shepherd of Theta Chi. ‘Mazie* Youngest dog entered is “Mazie,” petite spaniel pup who lives at the Sigma Nu house. Claimed by the brothers to be the "cutest dog on the campus,” Mazie is said to be taking an amorous interest in the Beta dog. ‘Red Dog’ "Master of arts and litters” is the degree held by the ATO’s "Red Dog.” This five-year-old Irish setter does what few others may boast of—he sleeps with the ATOs. ‘Smokey* A scholastic dog is the Phi Delt’s "Smokey,” who will soon be given a Ph.D. because ne spends so much time in classes. Phi Delts say he is the “smartest dog on the campus.” Smokey was “King of the Canines” two years ago. ‘Super Dog’ "The best parts of every dog God ever made” are combined in the SAEs’ “Super Dog.” Other Photos Go on Sale Glossy prints from the Oregana will remain on sale in the corri dor of McArthur court for at least Wednesday, according ,to Wilbur Bishop, editor. The pic tures, all of which were published in the yearbook, are priced from 5 to 25 cents. The sale will last from 1 to 5 this afternoon. than this, the SAEs are not sure of the species of their entry. ‘Stubby’ “Stubby,” 7-months-old mon grel of the DUs, was presented to the house by a policeman. "Stub by” is said to possess a sparkling personality and hidden beauty. Bishop also remarked that any students desiring to work on the Oregana next year, who have not already seen him, may do so in the next week.
