these sweet intentions Oregon’s
freshman football squad will swing
into action today against the high
ly touted fresh team from Pullman.
First Frosh Game
This game is the first tilt for the
yearlings and they will go in with
most of the dope against them. The
eleven from W, 8. C. has developed
a powerful offensive and they have
the advantage of one game’s ex
perience. They swamped Spokane
University 70 to 0 last week and!
(lie game could hardly have been I
called a set-up. If the Oregon ;
babes can put the skid under this
team they will have accomplished
something bigger than it is usually
credited to the feat of painting ele

Both Teams Heavy

to see a real exhibition of football.

have plenty of speed. The frosli
will probably feature in running the
ends and via the overhead route.
All the ends and backs are good
pass receivers and fhe team has
been showing considerable improve
ment in the passing department in
the last few practices. ‘‘Kitz”
Kitzmiller will start at full. Judg
ing by the way this blonde boy has
been tearing up the sawdust of the
frosli practice field of late, he
should contribute a great deal to
ward deflating the Cougar kitten.
Bert Tuttich continued to hold
down right half. He is the speed
demon of the yearling crew and tlie
W. S. C. freshmen will need bicycles
to keep track of him. John Dona
hue. will pair wifli Tuttich in the
opener. He is a good ball carrier
and can provide good Interference
when his teammates are toting the
ball. Bill Parke is a last minute
darkhorse for the signal barking
,j>b. He will start the game in
place of Don Kelly who will be used
probably in the Columbia game
Saturday.
Bill Laing gets the call over
George ChappcI at the pivot posi
tion. Lining is one of Pendleton’s
ex-prep meteorites of the grid and
will be given his chance to perform
again on the home lot.
Line Berths Secure
Austin Colbert is cemented to his
guard berth. He will pair with Don
Deveroau who draws the call over
Kenneth IIodg.cn to start at guard,
Deveroau and Hodgen have both
come to the front in recent work
outs to take their turn as regulars.
George Christensen and Marion
Hall will start at the tackles. Chris
tensen is the heavier man, strain
ing the beam past the 200 mark,
but Hall, is not far behind in weight
u*'d is the tallest man on squad. Bob
Eckman and Norman Jesse will be
reserve tackles. Ed Moeller and
i Woodward Archer draw first cud
j selections though Lvle Harrington
land May hew Carson stand a good
| chance of getting at the Cougar
kittens before the final gun is
fired. Leon Stein, Fraucfvs Hill,
and Ed Dvorak will make the trip
as reserve backs.
Saturday, the frosb will return
and meet Columbia University on
Hayward field at 1 o'clock. Satur
day’s game starts early so as to
i he over before the Order of the “O”
gridgraph at McArthur court starts
to flash the O. A. C.-Stanford game
from Portland.
A game has also been scheduled
with ' Medford for a second frosh
team Saturday afternoon at Med
ford. The line-ups for this game
•and the Columbia tilt, are not set
tled as yet but will be given in to
morrow's Emerald.
Athletes
(Continued from payc one)
recovered by either team, but the
bull cannot be advanced.

L. II. Gregory, sports editor of
the Oregonian, in his sports gossip,
says, “What on earth ailed the Ore
gon rooters at the California game?
They were dead. No signs of life
from tlie Oregon section—nothing
between the halves. Something
wrong with that vaunted ‘Oregon
spirit,’ and it wasn’t on the part
of the team. The players can’t .yell
as well as play-—a good cheer in
the pinch has a heartening effect.”
What about it, Oregon rooters?
Mr. Gregory is more than half right,
isn’t he? Oregon spirit is not dead
but will be revived to a greater
hoighth. At meeting of senior men
yesterday afternoon, new plans and
features were made to portray Ore

“Yes, Willard Mack is right, Luckies
are best,” says Paul Berlenbach
Popular pugilist tells his manager,
Benedict Sterns, that Lucky Strikes
are the finest cigarettes.
You, too, will find that
LUCKY STRIKES give the
greatest pleasure—Mild and
Mellow, the finest cigarettes
you ever smoked. Made of the
choicest tobaccos, properly
aged and blended with great
skill, and there is an extra proc

No Throat Irritation »No Cough.
Willard Mack,

writes:
“We people of the theatre are, as a
rule, extremists. This is the reflex
action from overwrought nerves•
When a man smokes forty cigarettes
a day, as 1 do, he must be sure of his
brand. I smoke Lucky Strikes be•
cause I have found, they are soothing
to the nerves and at the same time
they cause no throat irritation. My
voice is always in perfect condition

coughing which might be annoying
to me in my work as an actor.’*
