iW. S. C. Kittens Cry For Scalp i, Of Ducklings I Cougars » Pointed for Game With Frosh At Pendleton r ® Ashland Game Off; Eugene High Will Meet Babes Kitten versus Pnrklingl Anil What have you? The answer to this puzzler will have to be left, up to Oregon’s yearling grid man. In a certain rival frnsli football camp up north on the Washington State col-, lege campus 1 lie answer to this burn-] 3mg question lias been definitely settled. Kitten versus Duckling equals one kitty plus distended waist-line pins remains of fuzzy little duckling in shape of toe-nails, bill, and scattered bits of yellow doun. All of which is another way of saying that Frosh Coaeli Carl Schlademan is sharpening Ihe elaws of approximately 12 tons of Cougar kitten football material for the ex press purpose of scratching up the Oregon ducklings’ hopes for victory when the two elevents meet on the Pendleton gridiron. It will be the first conference game for either team and Schlademan considers it the toughest on liis schedule. This game is now little over a week away and the W. S. C. fresh men are unreservedly pointing to the struggle. If the kittens can de feat the Webfoot babes they are confident of finishing the balance of their six-game season with a dean slate. Reports have it there is no “if” left in the minds of these rival grid men. They are crying for duck meat! Inasmuch as the Oregon freshman game this week-end with Ashland Normal has been cancelled by It. W. McNeal, athletic director there, the frosh can now concentrate on the contest in Pendleton, Oetobcr 21. In plaee of Ashland Normal a tenta t ive practice game is scheduled for tomorrow with Eugene high. Interest over the coming tussle in the roundup city continues to rise in eastern Oregon. Pendleton is pre paring fr a gala day on the occa sion and a great crowd is expected to attend. College football is com paratively rare in this section of the country which accounts for much of the fervor the approaching battle is creating. Signal drills, formations, and lino work still occupy a greater part 'of the frosh practice. As yet Coach Hcinlmrt lias not boon pointing to any games blit, has spent li is of forts j toward instilling Orogon style of i football into tlio squad. The ma terial on hand is now pretty defi nitely evaluated and the task of developing it rcmainsi Each night’s praetiee includes a vigorous serim mage session before the babes put up their moleskins. And, in the meantime, the que stion remains. When the smoke of battle has cleared away from the eastern Oregon football field some eight days lienee, sliall we view a fuzzy Cougar kitten purring con tentedly among the remnants of a hapless Webfoot ducking—or — a cliesty Webfoot duckling striding off the gridiron dragging by the tail tlie furry pelt of a misguided Cougar kitty???? Follies (Continued from page ope) Tim Wood give their version of a double Spanish tango. Everybody on the campus has seen Ed Cheney dance. Ed Will be there with something new and dif ferent. So 'will Madge Normille, my nines singi'i who is supposed to have a papa who (was once Jack Dempsey’s manager. Madge, in her irresis table way, will sing several songs. Toward t h e end, (b u t not least, the Fall| Pollies will Tiro sent the Pony Charlotte Carll chorus, made famous last junior week-end. Charlotte Carll, Camille Burton and Emery Miller are in this. Remember Emery last junior week-end ? She could nearly out ! step them all. The men’s glee club will sing the “Pledge Song.” With this start towards singing, the en tire audjenee .will rfse ajnd sing .“Mighty Oregon.” Managers to Outline Work in Today’s Meet Newly elected debate managers will meet in Professor J. Hope is still held that ho Trill be pufficiently to covoreil to start against the Bears. The dexterous Oregon hacks had plenty of opportunity to improve j their open field tactics during last night’s practice session. The ends,1 Biggs, Wetzel, Pope, Ilandley, Greer and Jamison, were stationed along a narrow lane marked off on the■ field; one at a time the backs at-1 tempted to worm their ways through the maze. Burnell, Ord and Woodie sifted through with the least nnrn- j her of spills, and Hatton, Gould, Coleman, and Williams, reckoned as the line plungers on the team, showed a speed that should give trouble to the opposing wingmen ; next Saturday.
