Possibility of Conference Meet Coming Here IDAHO APPEARS STRONG Hayward Issues Call for Additional Candidates By W. J. Another week and the Oregon dis tance crew will take their first regular run over the three and a half mile course. Things look pret ty bright in cross country so far with no injuries, flunks, sore legs or other troublesome matters to handicap the runners. Up to now the men have merely been loping around the quarter mile track on Hayward field with a little hard running thrown in for the more conditioned. The three and a half mile course this year is the same as last. Once around Hayward field, up past the military buildings, through the graveyard, down University street to Twenty-second, along Hendricks down Emerald street to Fifteenth. From there up the road to and into Hayward field and around it once. Nothing definite is obtainable as yet about the date of the Pacific Coast Conference meet but this will be known for certain in a few days. Several schools are in> favor of having it at Oregon and there is a possibility that it will bo held here. Hayward Issues Call Bill Hayward sets out a call for more freshmon ctohs country men. Several meets will be sclioduled for the freshmon and he has to have matorial to work with. The chiof ono will be tho dual meet with tho O. A. C. rooks and possibly a meet with the Portland high schools. “But I have to havo more men out —more men who are going to go out for tho half mile or mile should report to mo immediately. They should go out for cross country. And they must come around at once in order to get in shape.’’ Tho meet with the rooks will prob ably be used as the curtain raise for the Frosh-Rook game on Nc vomber 8. Any freshman who wan to try their luck and their legs am endurance should report right awa; to Bill—over in the outdoor gym nasium. Few Men Out The crew out now consists o Tetz, Keating, Carlson, Conley Barnes, and Jeffries. Houston, on' of the best aspirants for the hal: mile of the varsity last sprinj came out several days ago. He has trouble with his legs last sprinj term and was unable to compete but will have a chance to show u] in cross country. Gurnea, a frosl distance man from last sprinj turnod out in a suit the other day He is new and his strength is un known. Idaho, the champions of last year show up on the cross country sk} as the team that will malk awa} with things this fall. They have six lcttermen out in suits and ai many more who are working hare to break in. Idaho has been turn ing out some good distance mei in the last few years.
