Today Oregon meets Oregon Agricul tural College in the annual content for the state championship between the two # schools. A splendid spirit of clean and keen rivalry has taken the place of the by gone bitterness. Neither side now bus t a chip on its shoulder. And with the growth of n more frn ternnl spirit between the two institutions keener rivalry has developed over stu dent body spirit. The psychology of stu dent support to the teams is more true today than it was yesterday. Aggies we are coming to win today! But if we lose—congratulations. PA8ADENA NEXT. By nn overwhelming vote the faculty took favorable action yesterday after noon in the matter of the Varsity going ■outh New Years Day to play the Uni versity of Pennsylvania. This is nn opportunity Oregon has been looking forward to since Coach Hugh Be/.dek took up, the coaching reins. We admire Coach “Besi.” lie stands first for the institution. The payroll is a secondary matter. Scouting is taboo with him. He loves a player who is a fighter. Here is what he said following the Oregon-Washington State game in Portland two weeks ago: "We were fighting for that little old institution in Eugene." They were fighting for Oregon indeed, for somehow they each and all have a little spot in their hearts that says, "Oregon first." The players are not playing football on a salary. They were not coaxed to Eugene. They came be cause they wanted to and they are just ■s much interested in their classroom work as any other student. And when the Varsity meets Pennsyl vania in Pasadena, January 1st, .wo do jnot know what the score will he. But we do know that the Oregon team will be representative of the state's best in youth and coached by a coach whose heart and soul is in the game. The faculty’s action was wise indeed. Up north in Everett, Wash., and Seat tle some scribes got their wires crossed and gave- out stories to the effect that the University of Oregon had cancelled its game with O. A. C., and was bick ering for a Turkey Day contest with the Everett high school. And a fool is born every minute! 0n“To CORVALLIS! Oregon imported the Aggie poultry farm last week, and will take it borne again this morning. .So much then for cockiness.
