The first track meet in which Ore gon participates this summer, will be the big California meet to be held at Berkely on May 4. As far as it is possible to judge at the present time, the varsity will have the strongest team on the Berkeley field that has ever represented the lemon-yellow in the south. The list of eligible men sent to California by Bill Hayward this last week is: James Johns—100 yard dash, 10 2-5 seconds; 220 yard dash, 22 4-5 sec onds; 440 yard dash, 50 1-5 seconds. Martin Hawkins—100 yard high hurdles, 15 2-5 seconds; 220 yard low hurdles, 25 seconds. Bob Kellogg—Shot put, 40 feet; hammer, 145 feet. Ben Williams—Pole vault, 12 feet 2 inches. Walter McClure—Mile run, 4 min utes 30 seconds. MacGuire—2 mile run. 10 minutes. Bill Neill—Javelin, 150 feet. From these records, California will pick the men who are to represent Oregon, and though no definite re turns have been received, it is ex pected that a good percentage of the list will be chosen. With the advent of spring weather, interest in track work has materially increased and at the present time about fifty men are trying out for the team. Prospects which were formerly rather discouraging to new material, have brightened since there is chance of a home meet with O. A. C., and the new men are now entering into the sport with a zeal which was formerly lacking. At the present time Oregon seems to be weak in the jumps and lacks a good quarter miler. However, sev eral promising men are on deck and Bill hopes to strengthen the team in these departments before the season’s hostilities actually commence. INTERFRAT BASEBALL BEGINS EARLY IN APRIL At a regular meeting of the interfraternity athletic league last week, President Chandler appointed a committee to arrange a baseball schedule and a comittee to arrange for the track meet. A tennis tourna ment was suggested and left over un til next meeting for discussion. There will be a new cup put up by the officers this year, as according to the rules of the Doughnut League the Sigma Nu fraternity by winning the Gregory cup for two successive years became the proud posessors of that famous trophy. The schedule, which will start about the middle of April, while not yet complete, promises to be heavy on account of the small number of var sity games at home. The Tawah Club was granted per mission to be excused from baseball because of a lack of baseball men. The rest of the teams are beginning to get into good shape for the coming season. Mrs. Giltner and Helen Whitney are guests at the Chi Omega house.
