After a lapse of two years the Uni versity band was again organized last Thursday evening at a meeting held at the Sigma Chi House. Twelve en thusiastic band men met and made arrangements to revive the old ‘Boola’ band, and if possible to provide for a permanent, organization at the Uni versity. Next Tuesday evening, at 7 o’clock, was set as the date for the first re hearsal. Tom Hudson, who was elect ed as manager, together with yell leader Lyle Brown, is arranging for music and other details at present. If enough money can be secured for the purpose, the band men expect to hire a leader to get them in shape for the coming football games. If possible, the new organization will play at the Varsity-Militia game next Friday. AH University students who can play any band instrument whatever, are requested to appear at practice Tuesday night with their instru ments. BABY l’AKTY POST l’ON ED IN DEFINITELY The girl's baby party, which the Woman’s Council planned to give Oc tober 21st, has been postponed in definitely on account of the studentt body dance and. when given, will probably be by the Y. W. C. A. The Woman’s Council has decided to let the Y. W. 0. A. give this party, as it has been an annual event with them. OREGON GLUB REACHES FOR BIG MEMBERSHIP Non-Fraternity Students Plan to Enter Activities Through Organization. The Oregon Club met Friday even ing at the home of Miss Eva Frasier, on North Pearl St., for their first business and social gathering of the year. Plans for the ensuing school year were discussed, the sentiment being to make the Oregon Club a more important factor in the social life of the University. A complete list of students not in fraternities and clubs has been ar ranged and so far the number is close to the four hundred mark. A com mittee is interviewing these students and urging them to join the Oregon Club. The sentiment was expressed very strongly for and against allowing the Dormitory Club to enter the club, but the matter was settled finally in the affirmative. The Dorm Club will act on the matter later. This year the Oregon Club is plan ning to enter the intra-collegiate ath letics and become a more prominent member in all branches of student life. GIRI.S GLEE CLUB CLAIMS MEMBERSHIP OF THIRTY The tryouts for the Girls Glee Club were concluded Wednesday, with thir ty girls successful in their applica tions for membership. The Girls Glee Club staged the operetta, “Princess Chrysanthemum,” last year, and it plans to put on a similar production tnis year. The first regular meeting of the club will be held next Tuesday afternoon, at 4 o’clock. The complete membership is as fol lows: First Soprano—Georgia Cross, Leona Bish, Josephine Morehead, Flor ence Cleveland, Grace Bean, Edna Miller, Agnes McLaughlan, Dorris Plummer, Nancy Noon. Second Soprano—Wilma Young, Rubie Hammarstrom, Veda Warner, Ethel Risley, Hazel Rader, Jean Alli son, Gladys Cartwright. First Alto—Lucile McQuinn, Erma Campbell, Gertrude Taylor, Alethea Emmerick, Mable Miller, Alma Pay ton, Esther Carson. Second Alto—Imogina McKowan, Olga Paolsen, Maude Beals, Hazel McKowan, Ruth Lathrop, Janet Young, Ermel Miller, Lucile Yoran. OREGON WILL HAVE STRONG PRESS CLUB ORGANIZATION Student Manager Geary has an nounced his intentions of forming among the embryo journalists of the University a Press Club, which shall have as its purpose the furthering of the interests of the various press agents and the boosting of all the student body enterprises. Season passes will be issued to all of the members of the club, so that they may have no trouble in reporting the student activities. The membership will be open to all of the reporters of the Portland daily papers, the Eu- \ gene papers, and the editor and man ager of the Oregon Emerald. Meet- 1 ings will be held daily and the news sent to the papers. Manager Geary hopes in this way to facilitate the ' news gathering at the University. The prospective members will meet ! in the the Emerald office, at 7:30 Tues- | day, to consider the plans more fully. “RUSH” NAMES ASSSISTANTS FOR WASHINGTON GAME Realizing the necessity of a well disciplined rooting force at the Wash ington game. Yell Leader Brown has appointed Chet Moores, Abe Black man and Dutch Young to aid him in drilling the mob. Rusher deplores the lack of enthus iasm which is being shown by the stu dents in the matter of devising new yells and songs. Very little interest has as yet been shown, and only two weeks remain in which such contribu tions will be received.
