Talent of University Has All Contributed to Splen did Book. i lie 1911 Oregana staff made good iheir previous threats and turned out me Dest annual in the history of the Uni versity. 1 he two hundred and fifty-four pages are crammed full of interesting college dope, clever drawings and sev eral hundred cuts depicting every possi ble phase ot student life as it is at Or egon. Vor does the outside of the book make an any less attractive appear ance. Bound m quarter leather, in green and gold, the Oregana is gotten up in style suitable for a gift book. 1 here is an original dedication in verse, commending the publication to a nunmber of different interests. The sen iors are represented b\r individual cuts and “pedigrees.” 1 here are clever vers es characteristic of college folk, that wduld do credit to any publication. Some of the Varsity’s best literary talent are contributors to the literary department. One of the bright features of the whole tiling are the headings and thumb nail sketches. Miss Wade has contributed several drawings and clever headings, as have also Fritz Dean and J. Elwood Luc key. '1 he fun is witty, without being per sonal or cutting. flic advertisements and boxing cards are particularly ef fective, as is the fake calendar. Since being put on sale last Saturday, the limited number of Oreganas have been going like the proverbial hot cakes, and all of those desiring this most truthful souvenir of days at Oregon should se cure one immediately. They may be had either from Manager Dobie, As sistant Manager Espy, J. K. Gill’s, Port land, or Eaton’s or Schwarzschild’s, in Eugene. Perhaps the best feature of the whole thing is that there will be no numbers left on the hands of the manager, and that there will be no financial deficit on the publication. FINISHES FIRST IN NORTHWEST LEAGUE WASHINGTON IS SECOND AND OREGON THIRD l - Baseball Does Not Pay, But It Makes Hard Up Hill Fight Against Adverse Circumstances With the close of the first Northwest Intercollegiate Baseball League, Oregon finished in the third place, but with a j good average. O. A. C. takes first with a full schedule of games played, and the University of Washington second place, with nine games played. It was not expected at the time of the formation of this league in Portland that baseball would pay for itself, and so far this is true, for although official reports have not been received from the different managers, it is known that Tf you have not paid your subscrip tion, do so at once. ALLEN EATON BOOKS STATIONERY ART GOODS Yoran’s Shoe Store THE STORE THAT SELLS Good Shoes the sport has not paid its own way thi year. In proportion to the expenses of the other colleges, Oregon lias a very small deficit. Manager Jamison said this mot tling that the season lul been as suc cessful as could be expected under ex isting conditions. Outside of paying tor the squad suits, the baseball jerseys, and tbe coach salary, the club will break even. Oregon baseball teams are handicap ped in several ways, due, however, to no one’s fault in particular. In the first palce there is no enclosed baseball diamond on tbe campus, and although tbe crowds have been excellent at Mid way Park, they have not been as large as if tbe games were played on the campus. Another handicap to the fin ances of the team is the manner of paying the coach. Idaho's coach re ceives his salary from the University fund. Pullman’s coach receives no sal ary, and the coach at Whitman alone is paid by tbe student bony. Manager Jamison, however, expressed high hopes of financial success next year. With the exception of Dud Clarke, practically the whole squad will be back next Spring, and with the abundance of new material that it is hoped the freshman class will have, there is no reason why Oregon should not have a -hampionship te-in, and that alone will attract a large crowd. It has also been rumored about the campus that a new baseball field will be made near the present football grounds, and if this plan is carried to completion next year’s manager should have no trouble in se curing tbe crowds.
