GEORGE MUNSON Mrs. Walter Cutright and Mrs. George Hughes of Ump qua and Maxine Johnson of Roseburg, 4-H extension agent, met at the Munson home on Joelson Road for a 4-li commit tee meeting Tuesday afternoon. Plans were made to organize 4 H clubs in this area. Benefit Party Draws The annual benefit card party by the Calapooia Women's Club was given on Wednesday and was deemed a success. Lunch eon was served at 12:30 p.m to some 85 guests. Prizes were won at each table. Mrs. Robert Monett was the over-all chair man of the party. Mr. and Mrs. John Blair and son, Mark, of Torrance, Calif., left for their home on Monday after spending several days vacationing at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Thomas on their ranch near Umpqua. Mr. and Mrs. Delinar Mur phy drove to Monmouth on Sat urday to attend homecoming week at Oregon College of Edu cation. They returned home late Sunday evening. A birthday card shower was given to Mrs, Belle Darling this week on the occasion of her 76th birthday. She was reportedly surprised and thrilled and thanks her many friends for their good wishes. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Nichols and children of Umpqua, their daughter, Mrs. James Knudtson of Roseburg, and son, Melvin Nichols of Eugene, have return ed from a trip to Eastern Ore- gon. The students earned the money for the radio by giving a car wash knd a food sale at Ump qua recently. Over $70 was made by this venture, accord ing to Mrs. George Munson, correspondent. Mrs. Calvin Honry and Mrs. Kenneth Manning were appoint ed co-chairmen for the annual smorgasborg. Committees for Christmas candy distribution, decorations and parties were appointed. Some plans were made for a memorial for the late H. Thoreson who was prin c.pal last year at Umpqua. Mrs. George Hughes, Mrs. Henry Crane, Mrs. Keg Thomas and Mrs. J. Cox were appoint ed room mothers. Following the business meet ing, parents and friends visited the classrooms where tho stu dents' work was attractively dis played, Mrs. Munson reports. Refreshments were served to about 60 persons in the auditori um by Mrs. Calvin Henry, Mrs. James Banducci and Mrs. Phil Scallon, hostesses. Oklahoma City she visited num erous relatives and friends. By the time Mrs. Battles re turned home her mother bad been released from the hospital and was in fair condition.
