Solon Slugs Colleague In Capitol WASHINGTON (UPI Rep. Ed Foreman, R-Tex.t told the House that Rep. Henry, Gonia- lez, D-Tex., slugged, him just outside tbe House chamber to day after first threatening to pistol-whip him. ' ' Foreman said Gonzalez ''com pletely lost his head" in- anger over comments Foreman made about Gonzalez' voting record in a speech last weekend at Houston before the Texas Fed eration of Republican Women. Foreman, amplifying his ac count for newsmen, said Gonza-1 lez approached him as he sat in the House during a quorum call and said be understood Foreman had ,; called him a Communist. ' - ' Foreman said he replied that this was not correct, but that he had discussed Gonzalez'-lib eral voting -record. Gonzalez I shot back that if Foreman ever I did make such a charge he would pistol-whip ' him, Fore-1 man related. Foreman said he replied, I "well,. Henry, why don't you get I started: At that he said Gonzalez in- v:ted him outside the House I chamber. As they stepped through a I door into the speaker's lobby he I slid Gonzalez swung at him, I striking his right shoulder. Foreman said he was not I hurt and that he did not retal iate. Instead he told reporters I he admonished Gonzales as follows: "Henry, I believe you have I lost your mind. I can't imagine I an intelligent. adult and a mem ber of Congress doing a thing I like that." Foreman said he then stepped back into the House chamber and Gonzalez left. Gonzalez was not immediately available fori comment. Foreman is a 29-year-old freshman member, the House's youngest. 'Gonzalez is 47 and came t- the House midway in the last Congress. Foreman is among the most outspoken of I House conservatives. Gonzalez has voted generally with the liberal bloc. Foreman has been touring the country during lulls in House business calling for election of conservatives. He has been in 30 states so far.. . Most recently he tangled with Rep. W. Donlon Edwards, D Calif., a freshman member of I the liberal bloc, assailing him in his home district aa "oinko." He apologized after Edwards threatened to sue hiin. Pennsy Station Is Coming Down' NEW YORK (UPI) It was a cross between a Roman bath and a Greek temple. Artists and designers for years had ar gued whether it was an archi tectural masterpiece or a mon strosity. - "; But for more than a half a century it had been a familiar landmark to untold millions of New .Yorkers and visitors" from all over the world. Tucsday-the artistic merits or I demerits of the world's busiest railroad station ;: became aca-1 demic. .','"' At 9 a.m. Monday the first of the electric ; tackhammers started .tearing into the stone I and granite that formed the im posing facade of famed Penn-1 sylvania Station, The columned grandeur of the old building, will be no more, but the station will remain. It will be rebuilt from the ground up. The underground railroad sta tion will be topped by a 33- stopy modernistic skyscraper and a new S70 million Madison Square Garden sports center. The facelifting will be carried out despite prutests from archi tectural devotees and others in terested in preserving the ; 53-year-old landmark. Officials of the Pennsylvania and Long Island Rail Rolds, the construction and demolition firms and the head of the Mad ison Square Garden corporation watched as workers atop the main entrance staked and trussed up one of the six stone eagles that have perched there since 1910. A giant crane lifted the 5,700 lb. eagle and then lowered it to the street where It glowered imperiously at the destroyers of its imperial nest. The five other giant birds are scheduled to join it soon in a 31st Street parking lot for tem porary storage. The lower levels of the sta- , tion still will serve 200.000 pas sengers on 550 daily trains. The train service will continue dur ing the demolition and new construction. Sim: Evon Real.
