The associ ation meets monthly at a Roseburg restaurant where members can exchange ideas and 'hear outside speakers. Materials Center Study Scheduled Recommendations "from a state study committee on what Douglas County schools should be doing in providing instruc tional materials will be unveil ed Oct. 24 at a meeting of the Douglas County Intermediate Education Board. A committee of western Ore gon educators on Sept. 18 and 19 made a study of instruction al materials now being used by schools in the county. County School Supt. Kenneth Barne burg said the committee will report on its findings at the Oct. 24 meeting and make recom mendations to the board on the , basis of these findings. ! The meeting will start at 8 p.m. in the Joseph Lane Jun ior High School auditorium. Barneburg said school board members from the various dis tricts, superintendents, elemen tary and secondary principals and district clerks will be in vited to attend the session so they will have opportunity to question the authorities. The instructional materials study was requested by the In termediate Education District Board in connection with studies to determine the need for a cur riculum materials center. At the upcoming meeting, the study committee will be repre sented by Henry C. Ruark, Jr., Salem, consultant in the instruc tional materials for the state Department of Education; Dr. Walter Shold, assistant superin tendent for the Marion County School System, and Norman Jensen, who is connected with the film library program of the state System of Higher Educa tion. Four Youths Held On Burglary Count ' Three youths from Portland and one from Milwaukie have been booked at the Douglas County jail for investigation in connection with the burglary of a service station Monday near Myrtle Creek. The sheriff's department said complaints will be prepared today charging Don Cameron Walker, 20; David Edward Job son, 18, and Gary Lee Mad dox, 18, of Portland and Lynn B. Scherf, 18, of Milwaukie, with burglary not in' a dwelling. The four were taken into cus tody Tuesday by Myrtle Creek Chief of Police Jim Pringle and Canyonville resident deputy Don Soper in connection with the burglary at Frank's Chev ron Station at the Riddle Junction, in which the four re portedly have admitted partici pation. According to Pringle, the four youths had come to the area to help with slash burn ing, but had been hanging around Myrtle Creek High School, where they were takert into custody on a charge of va- grancy. They had picked up a 15-year-old girl at the close of school. They reportedly had at tempted to enroll at the school but had been turned down. The four had checked out of a motel in Myrtle Creek where they had been staying. Walker was charged by Myr tle Creek police with having no driver's license and with failure to transfer title of his car. A large quantity of candy, cigarettes and other items al legedly stolen from the service j station were found in their pos-1 session.
