Many New Families Are Reported As Now Residing In Canyonville By MRS. R. E. PROCTOR Among the many new families in the Canyonville area are Mr. and Mrs. Gene" Irwin and family who moved to Portland last year and returned early in the summer to their home north of town. Both are employed ht the Airport Cafe. Others. Are New Others reported by city recorder Hugh Lathrop are Mrs. Gladys Harrington in one of the Oak's i-partments; the Marvin Bakers in the Calhoun house: J. W. Rhoads at 570 W, First; Kenneth Lent in one of the Brown apartments; W. H. Hackleman at 661 School Lane; Barbara Early in one of the' Heath apartments; and R. L. Swinford also in a Heath apart ment. New teachers reported are Mrs. Betty McKenzic, sixth grade; Miss H'arilyn Chandler, fourth grade; Carmen Sandwick, high school homemaking; snd Leland Sotuh crn. high school math and science. Warren Richards, son of Mrs. Richey Huston, Canyonville first grade teacher, has left to attend San Jose State College this fall entering as a junior in engineering. Richards, who is a Canyonville High School graduate, worked at Herbert's planer mill during the summer. Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Baker and sons, formerly of San Diego, have rented the Jim Calhoun home in Canyonville.' Their son, Scott, en tered the first grade and John, the second. Baker is the new man ager of the Superette Market. Johnny and Piper Hamlin spent a week . recently visiting their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Hamlin, before Piper returned to her home at Springfield to register lor first grade. Hoffee New Fireman Bill Hoffee Jr., was accepted as fa new member of the Canyonville 4Volunteer Fire Department at the regular meeting held recently. News of a red-haired son born recently to Mr. and Mrs. Frank Miller of Boulder, Colo., (Eleanor Irwin), reached friends in Canyon ville recently. The boy was named Kim Wesley and is the only red haired grandchild of 17 belonging to Mr. and Mrs. John Irwin of Canyonville. Weekend guests of Barbara Lee at the James Lee home included Larry Bues and Ben Johnson of Hayward, Calif. Mrs. Veronica Chaney has re turned from a three-week stay with her mother, Mrs. Emma Charlebois, of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Mrs. Chaney flew there by jet and besides visiting her mother, who is ill, she also was the guest of her three brothers. BPW Group Starts Season The first fall meeting "of the Roseburg Business and Profession al Women's Club was held this week at the Wagon Wheel on Gar den Valley Blvd. Dinner preceded the meeting. Much interest was expressed in the recent San Francisco confer ence sponsored by the National Federation of Business and Pro fessional Women's Clubs, and at tended by Mrs. George West, pres ident of the local club, and Mrs. Ted Crankshaw, second vice pres ident. A workshop is planned later to pass information on to other club me ..bcrs, according to Mary Nel son, publicity chairman. Chairmen of the standing com mittee reported plans for the com ing year and plans were made for National Business Women's Week, Oct. 6-12. A brief resume of her trip to Europe and the British Isles was given by Mrs. Alvia Wetherell. She has recently returned from a 10 week tour.
