Danish Girl Fourth Exchange Student To Study At Reedsport High School Wed., Aug. 28, 1963 The News-Review, Roseburg, Ore. 13 By DAWN PESEAU Denmark probably is faring all right in the capitals of the world if she is as ably and charmingly rep resented as she is in Reedsport during the coming school year. Lis Strandberg, flaxen - haired, tall, with a clear and direct gaze and a warm, spontaneous smile, ar rived in Reedsport Sunday as the fourth American Field Service high school student. The 16 year old Danish lass is sharing the home of Air. and Mrs. Lee Sharman typical of those American homes where both par ents are public school teachers. Lis comes from a Danish mer chant's home in the 17,000-popula-tion city of Virum, ten miles from the almost fabled metropolis of Co penhagen. Her father operates a grocery store, employing nine peo ple, and just beginning, Lis ex ulains. to reflect fho distribution influence. When she completes her year as Reedsport Union High School student, Lis will probably return to her home to enter the "gymnas ium" phase of public schooling, for which she has been qualified by passing the entrance examination. She has been attending a paro chial school of about 700 pupils, all girls. Lis has one brother in Denmark. In her Reedsport home, she shares the family with two sisters: Pat, who is to be a junior in high school this year, and Sylvia, who leaves in mid-September for Cottey College, Missouri. She has studied four languages besides her native Scandinavian tongue, which equips her for con- speaks with all the command of a versation with both Norwegians j native Oregonian four years of and Swedish people.
