Newspaper Page TextLittle River Area Near Glide Attracts Many Newcomers By MRS. ARTHUR SELBY , New residents are living in the! Little River district of the Glide! community. Mr. and Mrs. Joseph E. Mackev and family of Santa Ana, Calif", are living on the ranch on Jim Creek which they recently purchas ed from Mrs. Glenn Snyder who has moved to SUem. Others Buy Property Dr. and Mrs. David Cohen and family of Northridge, Calif., have purchased the Joe Bogg place on Cavitt Creek and are presently us ing it as their summer home. They will leave for California in Septem ber in time to return their chil dren to school. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Stone and children have moved from Bell flower, Calif., and have rented the guest house on the Mackey place. Stone is currently employed in the building of the new Seventh-day Adventist School in Roscburg. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Benton, for merly of Costa Mesa, Calif., re cently purchased property on Lit tle River road and have moved here with their family. Mrs. May Ivey has moved from Mc's place at Idleyld Park to a cot tage on the Little River Grocery site. J. S. Morberg Sr. recently re turned from a jet flight to Los Angeles where he visited his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. John S. Morberg Jr., and grand daughters, Sharon and Teresa. John Jr. was graduated from Glide High School in 1960 and is pres ently working for the Douglas Air craft Co. in Santa Monica. He plans to attend college this fall. Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Hopper, newly weds, are at home to their friends in an apartment at the Lit tle River Grocery property. Teachers Move Mr. nd Mrs. Jack Forsythe mov ed Wednesday from their ranch home on Little River Road to their new home at Scottsdale, Ariz. They both had taught in the Glide schools for the past 11 years, Forsythe was arts and crafts teacher at Glide High School and his wife, Jean, was a first grade teacher at Glide Elementary School. Both have ob tained teaching positions. For sythe to teach in one of three high schools at Scottsdale and Mrs. Forsythe in one of the 10 grade schools. The Forsythes sold five of their thoroughbred quarter horses, ship ped three to Arizona and Mrs. f or- sythe's brother-in-law and sister from Paradoz, Colo., arrived to take the last three mares to their home. Eugene Policy of Glide has leased the 21-aere ranch of the Forsythes. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Gunderson and children, Kothy and Micky, have returned to their home at Omaha, Neb., after spending a week visit ing the former parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Gunderson, and his brother, Roger Gunderson, and family on Little River Road. Bob Gunderson is head hog buyer for a meat packing firm at Omaha. Mr. and Mrs. Gary Tesdahl (nee Doris Morberg) returned to their home in Seattle recently aft er visiting the latter's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Morberg, on Little River. Mrs. Tesdahl is employed as a nurse at the Marine Hospital and her husband is in the Coast Guard. Other guests at the Morberg home the past week were Mr. and Mrs. V. D. Gale and son from Long Beach, Calif., who spent four days visiting their old friends. Vacationer Returns Mrs. T. E. Shrum Jr. has arriv ed at her home on Cavitt Creek aft er a two-week vacation. She spent the first week visiting her muiher, Mrs. T. M. Stott, at Grants Pass then drove to French Glen to visit her brother, John Stott, and fam ily. Mrs. Anna Tierncy of Little Riv er Road had as her house guests the past week Mrs. Agnes Dcla grave of Arroya Grande, Calif., and Mr. and Mrs. Dan Sullivan and son, Keith, of Tacoma, Wash. Mr. and Mrs. Orris Kangiser have as their guests at their Glide home the latter's brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. David Padde and six sons (11-24 years old) from Shreveport, La., for an extended visit. Kangiser had not seen his brother-in-law and family for 14 years. Mrs. Kangiser flew to Shreveport last year, called by the death of her mother. Harriette Wells, former teacher of the third grade at Glide Ele mentary School for IS years, spent a week visiting at the Glide home of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Ware as well as with many other friends. Miss Wells resigned from the Glide school in 1961 and has been teach ing the fourth grade at Wasco, Wash. If West has learned to think like a declarer he will realize that the play has been rather unusual. He will ask himself if South would have adopted that line of play if he had started with ace-jack-small of hearts. He will answer the ques tion in the negative. Then he will ask himself what South would have done if he held the ace of spades, the ace-jack doublcton of hearts, and the ace-queen of clubs. It won't take hiin long to find the answer which is that he would have tried the same play that South had made. At this point rattlesnake West will rise with the ace of diamonds j and lead the king of hearts. South's ! jack will fall and West will take three more heart tricks. City Manager John Porter told Fruitt in a letter that he would not recognize a petition of some 350 persons to keep the chief beyond Sept. 1 when he reaches compulsory retirement age. Fruitt, who has been chief here for more than 15 years, had asked to be kept on. Porter has not appointed a replacement.
