son, Steve, are back at their home
in Laurelwood, following a vaca
tion spent in the lit. Hood area.
Miss Leota Trimble of Toppen
ish, Wash., is expected to arrive
in Roseburg Sunday for a visit
with her sister, Miss Carol Trim
ble, Douglas County librarian.
G. :V. Wimbsrly returned to his
home on SE Lane Ave. Monday
evening, following a trip to Grants
Pass to visit relatives. He accom
panied a group to the coast to
Crescent City, Calif, over the
weekend. , . '
Mrs. L. A, Dillard has returned
to her home in Roseburg, follow
ing a seven weeks stay in Califor
nia. She visited her son, Thomas
Dillard, and family in San Jose
and with another son, Louis Dil
lard,! and family, in Roseville.
Mrs. ' William W. Knight - and
daughter, Miss Joanne, of Port
land,; arrived in Roseburg Monday
to spend a few days visiting her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. : Harry F.
Hatfield, and with her brother-in-law
and sister-in-law, Mr. and
Mrs. tredencK J. Porter. - ,
Mr. and Mrsi Charles Flower
of Yakima, Wash, left Monday for
Albany to visit relatives en route
home, following a vacation at the
coast and a stopover here to visit

Unit No. 58 of the Retired Vet
eran and Railway . Employes will
hold a picnic Friday, Aug. 16, at
Umpqua Park at 12 noon. Ice
cream and coffee will be furnished.
All members are invited and vis
itors are welcome. Those attend
ing are asked to bring their own
table service.
Ben Ruckle of Santa Barbara,
Calif., formerly of this city, vis
ited his brother, Louis Ruckle,
and family, over the weekend.
Ben was supervisor in the build
ing of the Seventh-day Adventist
Church here and has built several
other Adventist churches since
then.
Marine Private Larry D. Saxon
has arrived at Memphis, Tenn.
Naval Aviation Training Center,
having completed his boot train
ing at San Diego and Camp Pen
dleton, Calif., after spending his
furlough here visiting his parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Saxon, and
his sister, Mrs.' Robert E.' Scott,
for the last 20 days.
Mr. and Mrs. Ray Clendenon
of Laurelwood Academy near Gas
ton, formerly of Roseburg, have
been visiting friends here this
week. Clendenon is a teacher in
the academv and head of the print
ing shop there. He donated sev
eral hours of work on the new
Adventist school building here uur
ing the visit. .
Mrs. Robert Marshall has re
turned home after a trip to Grants
Pass for a visit with her son and
daughter-in-law, Mr. . and Mrs,
Bill Roberts. She made the trip
especially to see her new. grand
son, Richard Guy, born to Mr., and

Richard Kress, son of Mi'. 'and
Mrs. H. J. Kress and- formerly
a Roseburg High School student,
is now in New York City. He is
presently on a two-year tour of
duty with - the U.S. Navy. He
joined the Roseburg Electronics
Division of the U.S. Naval Reserve
a year ago; He is stationed aboard
the George K. McKenzie.

couver, Wash., who stopped over

attended a meeting at the Pasa
dena Avon plant, where she was
appointed as the new manager for
the company for Douglas and Coos

the two-day meeting of the com
pany to be held at the Beverly
Hilton Hotel. - .
Mr. and' Mrs." Victor "Johnson
of San Diego. Calif, were recent
visitors at', the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Herbert Smith on Pitzer St.
Johnson is a brother of Mrs.
Smith and like his sister is great
lv interested in music. He has
been a music instructor in several
Adventist academies and at Wal
la Walla 'College. The Johnsons
were unable to be in Roseburg in
time to attend the Smith's golden
wedding celebration.
